It's with some sadness and joy that we're announcing Grace departure... We're so happy for her new beginning in the field of her choice, pursuing her dreams, but also sad to see a great team member leave us. Her last day at Outpost will be June 15th, don't forget to come by and wish her good luck in her new projects 🙌 Grace will be there until 14h30 to wish you a great morning ☺️

How to reuse coffee grounds.. We'll guide you little by little through this adventure. Starting today, we'll share some ways here and there.

Here's the first method : body scrub.

Did you know you can use used coffee grounds to exfoliate and get smooth skin ?

It's not only easy to make but also has great effects on the skin and, you get to pick the scent you like! Isn't it great?

It can be used to improve puffy eyes, make a face mask to tighten the skin, help improve the appearance of cellulite in the short term, exfoliate your skin, and remove that dead skin sitting there. Also, since it contains antioxidants, it may help boost your collagen levels (which prevents your cells from aging too fast and making you look older).

Here's a quick recipe for a face mask:
Add equal parts of an element that won't clog your pores (non-comedogenic*) to spent coffee grounds, and a few drops of your favorite essential oil if desired

Some ideas of them:
- grapeseed oil
- sunflower oil
- neem oil
- almond oil
- hempseed oil
- olive oil
- aloe vera

Are you a fan of espressos? Then this informative second is for you! Today's topic is portafilters. Test your knowledge, maybe you'll discover some interesting things!

Pressurized Portafilters:

Often seen in entry-level espresso machines, these portafilters are designed to provide the coffee with the required pressure for extraction. This allows for a more consistent extraction of our favorite espresso even if the grind size is slightly off or the tamping isn’t perfect.

When using these types of portafilters, the grind size will be coarser than that of a non-pressurized portafilter.

An easy trick to recognize pressurized portafilters is that they disassemble into multiple parts for easy cleaning



Non-pressurized Portafilters:

Mostly seen on professional and prosumer espresso machines, the non-pressurized portafilters are comprised of a single basket and the portafilter handle. Here, the coffee grounds provide all the required resistance to produce the pressure for extraction.

Greater care during grinding and tamping is important at this level of espresso production. These variables can greatly affect how the coffee tastes from shot to shot.

There are two typical versions of non-pressurized portafilters: spouted and 'naked'. Spouted direct the flow of espresso into one or two espresso cups. This compares to the naked portafilters that pour into only one espresso cup. Also, naked portafilters allow you to see how the espresso is extracting while pulling a shot.

Does 'Champurrado' ring any bell to you? Maybe because you've grown up with it or heard of it somewhere during one of your trips?

To put it simply, it's a traditional Mexican hot chocolate drink known to be popular during the holiday of 'El Día de Mu***os' (the day of the dead) on Nov. 1 and 2.

During this tradition, people celebrate and welcome the souls of their deceased loved ones back in the mortal world through rituals, activities, and offerings. They wear colorful skull masks or make-up, clothes and flowers, the streets are also decorated with 'Papel Picado' to represent the wind and how delicate life is, a wonderful sight - and pretty popular for tourists.

First, 'Todos los Santos' on Nov. 1st, when the souls of the littles ones come back amongst the living, and on Nov. 2nd 'Los Fieles Difuntos', it's then the adults turn to visit their families on Earth.

For this occasion, we brought the drink into our menu year after year. It's a richer beverage than the traditional drinking chocolate, but it will still bring back memories! This year, we also decorated Outpost with the Papel Picado, so come by to enjoy it !

A little presentation of this amazing coffee was due ! Starting last Friday, we changed our limited edition "Wush Wush" for El Truinfo ! As you can think, it's meant to be an experience with its key lime, black tea, and lavender notes ! This is a light roast from Colombia and was fermented for 48 hours.

This, again, is a limited edition - we don't know how long we will have it, so get your hands on it before we run out !

After more than a year of work, we have our new packaging.

Why did we change?
- We wanted a our bags to be as pretty as our coffee
- We wanted our bags to be recyclable and keep them out of landfills
- We needed our bags to keep coffee tasty for longer
- We made our Roast level easier to read

This new packaging is one more step in our commitment to improving what we can offer you!
