Excessive alcohol use presents a unique health and safety risk to females and alcohol related deaths in women are higher than ever before. They are rising faster than our male counterpart. So why do we continue to make it look sexy and cute, holding up a glass smiling in photos like it’s a best friend?
“I don’t drink during the week.” This was one of the boundaries I had for myself that made me feel like a ‘normal drinker’. I would exercise, eat well, focus on my sleep and then when the weekend came around I would let loose (I’d still manage to show up to my workout class sweating out red wine and tequila 🥴), I was sick of the detox to retox cycle. I was sick of living a healthy lifestyle while hypocritically blacking out every other weekend. Alcohol no longer has a place in my life and I am so thankful I broke the cycle.
I've just reached 100 followers! Thank you for continuing support. I could never have made it without each one of you. 🙏🤗🎉
I was honestly really worried about going into my first sober summer, even with 5 months under my belt. Turns out it was the best summer since I was a kid. I had more time and I was present for all of it. I took my three kids to Wonderland once a week with my kids and it felt… easy.
Try it. You might surprise yourself.

I never thought I would be here. I never thought I would want to be here. Turns out, I love being a sober girl. ✌️
Happy Mother’s Day!
For years I believed wine and motherhood went hand in hand. That I had earned a glass after a hard day. That I needed it to meet new mom friends and for people to like me. That I needed it to take the edge off the madness of after school and before dinner. Turns out I don’t need wine. I just need a full time chef.
Giving up alcohol has made motherhood so much more enjoyable. Turns out I needed less anxiety and more patience. I needed time to take care of myself. I needed to feel good. I needed to exercise.
What do you need today?

Shipping Day is my favourite day. I love curating these boxes and I can’t wait to share them with you. I hope you love your SET as much as I do. See you soon. 🥰
I don’t think we realize the impact alcohol has on our kids. (I didn’t.) The uneasiness they must feel as they watch our personalities change, as the volume of the room increases. The unpredictable behaviour, both good and bad, disrupting the consistency they need from us.
My kids were definitely a reason for me to quit drinking. Not only do they deserve a clear minded, present mother, but I want to live a long and healthy life and watch them grown old.
I am so excited to be including in the upcoming Sober Edit Toolkit! Hello Brighter Days. ☀️ Don’t forget to order yours!

It was hard not only because alcohol is physcally addictive but society expects you to drink. Wine with dinner, fridays with friends, birthdays, holidays, VACATIONS! All of these important milestones and life events I was clouding with alcohol. It was hard but it was worth it.
I’ve been feeling stuck lately, stuck in my procrastination and it’s feels very similar to when I wanted to quit drinking but couldn’t quite make the commitment. I’ll start after the summer, next month, next week, next year! My sober date is Jan 1, 2023…
Today I start a new chapter in getting unstuck, in going all in, in making it happen.
I don’t follow astrology, but I know this eclipse was special, let it be the mark of something, a commitment to change or maybe even your day 1.

This is one of those facts I wished I hadn’t known, it made drinking much less enjoyable. Sorry! I do think it’s important to know the risks of what you’re putting in your body.
There are many reasons to cut back or cut out alcohol. Your health is a big one. I highly recommend episode 183 (03-12-23) of the Hello Someday podcast: What you need to know about breast cancer + alcohol.
You can find more info at https://www.breastcancer.org/risk/risk-factors/drinking-alcohol.
I didn’t want to get up with my 5:25 alarm this morning, but I told myself when I quit drinking that I would stop breaking the promises I make to myself! When I say, “I’m not going to drink tonight.” Or “I’m taking 90 days off.” Or “I’m going to get up early to work out.” I do it. I owe it to myself to follow through. No more bailing on me.
When you catch the boys mixing in an NA. 😍
I promise the boredom goes away and the simple things will bring you joy again. I wouldn’t have believed it as a party girl but life is so much more fun without alcohol.

It’s crazy how many times a day I hear people say, “I need a drink”. I bite my tongue because I know that relaxing drink, used to take the edge off, is wreaking havoc on your nervous system and brain chemistry, which can lead to feeling more anxious and stressed once the alcohol wears off. I did it. I get it. It’s a quick fix to cope and it works. Is it worth it?
When I first quit drinking and was feeling stressed I’d reach for a bubbly!! It sounds crazy but the action of going to the beer fridge and ‘cracking a cold one’ gave me the same feeling of, stress relief is on its way. It got me through that craving feeling of ‘I need a drink’ and left me better equipped to actually deal with the situation.
I wouldn’t have agreed with this a year ago. I would find any excuse to grab a drink. Now I find It’s way more fun to be present and have genuine conversations and laughs that I remember the next day. I had no filter when I was drinking and would say things I didn’t mean or out of context. Now, I value my friendships, a good night sleep and being present for my kids. It’s just crazy how much my perspective has changed and how much I surprised myself.
On Tuesdays I play Volleyball. It was a sport I loved to play in jr/sr high school. I started a couple years ago with some friends at the beach and now I’m on a team with a bunch of random people I’ve met through the league and I love it.
A few years ago I would have prioritized red wine over any physical fitness and my anxiety would have never let me out of my comfort zone and into a gym with a bunch of intermediate II volleyball players, but here I am. 🙂

I heard this on the Sober Mom podcast and it really resonated with me. When I quit drinking I had been listening to podcasts and someone suggested doing a year sober, go through all the seasons mindfully alcohol free. (This is different than pregnant sober.) I had so many reasons not to; but I always had that thought in the back of my head, “what if it’s better than I expected?”
It was.
Would you try a year without alcohol?
