Exciting day - my Sunset Patterns labels arrived! I can't wait to personalize all of my products with these beauties.
Thank you to everyone who are helping me narrow down my 2024 Christmas print. I am about to order fabric to make tea towels for upcoming holiday craft shows and I need your help. Which of these patterns would you most like to see on a holiday tea towel? Thanks! โค
Continuing on my Christmas in September theme, here's a pretty snowflake pattern in a number of different colourways. Wouldn't it make pretty gift wrap? Which colourway is your favourite?
โ
It's Christmas in September around here. I'm planning for some holiday products and would love your feedback over the next week on patterns so that I can pick "the one" for this holiday season.
Do you like reindeer pattern A or reindeer pattern B with the little Rudolph heads included? Let me know in the comments.
I'll be sharing other options in the days ahead. If there are any holiday patterns that you would like to see, send them along!
This spring we did a big overhaul of our backyard to give ourselves an outdoor living space. Our lot is 17 feet wide so we need do everything we can do maximize our space both indoors and out. I am so happy with the result. It's been a beautiful September in Toronto so I've been able to draw, relax and entertain in our new space. Now to figure out how to brighten up the wooden garage wall!
My first art print! It fits perfectly in an IKEA 20 X 25cm frame. And it looks fabulous as the first print on the very blank wall heading up my stairs. Interested in adding it your decor? Sign up for my Sunset Patterns mailing list and a digital version of the poster will be all yours. ๐ผ

I took the class last night and it reinforced my enthusiasm to purchase a serger for home. Look at the beautiful corners and edges on these 17" X 17" napkins using material printed with my botanical elegance pattern. I ๐ them!
Does anyone have a serger brand that they love? Pass it along. It's definitely going on my wish list.
We all have an adjustment when we return from the cottage and settle back into fall routines. One could argue that the most impacted is Radar who goes from leash-free open-door days to our small downtown backyard. I wonder if he counts down the days to next summer as we all do!
The Nova Scotia sunsets still do not disappoint!
One highlight of my summer is our annual family games. It is hard to describe the magic of the weekend. This year we celebrated the 50th anniversary of the games with 150 friends and relatives, 11 different events and a party with to top it off. What a great weekend!
I'm having fun with the 70's theme patterns. Vinyl sales peaked in the early 70's, declined throughout the 80's and 90's but have made a resurgence since 2007. You can't beat the sound of a great vinyl record!
Very excited that my colourful tree frog pattern was highlighted in 's Pattern Journal this month! is an amazing Canadian magazine covering craft, design, typography and illustration. Check it out!
I received great feedback on my 70's floral print inspired by my childhood bedroom so I decided to work on a 70's theme collection of patterns. This pattern brings back memories of circling the roller palace rocking to loud music to me. What 70's memories or icons stand out to you? I would โค to know for future pattern inspiration!

It's been almost five decades since I lived with this amazing wallpaper in my bedroom but I still remember it clear as day. My not sure my pattern does it justice. It was pure fabulous!
I'm having more fun with florals. Hope you like them! ๐งก
One other thing I โค about summer is all of the fresh fruits and vegetables. Whether we grow it, pick it or buy it at the market, you can't beat a fresh strawberry or new potato!
Can't you imagine the burst of flavour when looking at these strawberry patterns? The project bag or dish towel would bring these memories back to me in the depth of our Canadian winter. You can take a peek at these designs and others at my website www.sunsetpatterns.com.

One highlight of the summer is a trip to Port Elgin, NB and the annual Lupin Quilt Fair. This year a beautiful quilt by Rita Cormier (Shemogue, NB) caught my eye. I'm always partial to blue but the detailed hand quilting sold me. It will bring me joy for years to come!
As part of my creative journey I'm trying different art styles. These cone flowers were painted with black watercolour and then recoloured online. It's difficult to keep the beautiful colour gradation that watercolours offer when you move to digital. I don't mind this result so I think I'll keep trying :)
The bounty from our cherry tree inspired me to create a cherry pattern (and a cherry pie!). I love the pop from the red cherries against the turquoise background. They would make great tea towels or a cute child's dress.

We have made our annual journey to Nova Scotia and the sunsets most evenings have reinforced why I chose Sunset Patterns for my company name. They bring me joy and a sense of pause as I watch the sun slowly disappear below the horizon. I hope my patterns bring the same feelings to you. โค
I have the fortune of having a cherry tree in my front yard the announces spring with beautiful cherry blossoms and then bears fruit for a few weeks every June. Many reap the bounty and enjoy fresh, juicy cherries. Now I have the difficult decision of deciding whether to make a cherry pie ๐ or cherry pattern ๐

My Satsuma quilt top is done! Also done is our backyard landscaping. Who knew that my quilt would match the portapotty temporarily in our front yard and the couch cushions I picked months ago? I'm really looking forward to quilting my Satsuma quilt and snuggling under it in our backyard this fall.
I like to learn something with every project I complete. The taught me to respect the quarter inch seam. I had to redo many of the seams to make sure the orange peel units matched up. My issue was in the orange peel unit creation - when I trimmed the squares down I did not have the full quarter inch seam allowance which made constructing the larger blocks difficult. I'd like to do this quilt again (in another fabulous colour combination) to see if I can be more precise next time.
A friend has a gorgeous wallpaper that inspired me to work on my to see if I could replicate the complexity and depth of colour. I created this pattern but something was missing until I added the little birds. Wouldn't it make a fabulous accent wall in a powder room or office?
