There is something beautiful about the history of Dance Migration: the number of lives changed through dance, culture, knowledge, and relationships.

The story of our student Laura Noetzel is an inspiration to us and to everyone. These photos speak louder than words, but we invite you to witness this transformation and to learn more about how it happened.

Laura Noetzel is 34 years old, born and raised in Thunder Bay (Ontario, Canada), where she currently resides and works as a Physician Assistant in Family Medicine.

She was introduced to us around the beginning of 2023 when she started with pre-recorded classes, then weekly Zoom group classes, private classes, and the Rio Retreat in Brazil.

And this is where, for the first time in her life, her dance journey truly took her down a path so new to her, and where she took flight.

She says Samba has changed her life. It has allowed her to connect, find and express herself, and love who she is. She is feeling stronger, more confident, and happier. It has become a part of who she is.

Dance Migration has given her a family who understands the passion for Samba. It has connected her with genuine individuals whom she loves dearly and has provided her with opportunities.

Laura joined the retreat in Rio de Janeiro at the beginning of this year, something she never imagined experiencing before. This work done directly with Adrianna, along with this in-person journey in Brazil, helped Laura experience a massive change, both inside and outside of herself.

We invite Laura to write a little about their own story of fears, vulnerability, confrontations, challenges, overcoming obstacles, courage and determination.
