Lake Erie’s toxic algae blooms significantly threaten local communities and wildlife. One of the major contributors to the nutrient pollution that causes blooms to form is the over-application of fertilizers on farm fields and poor soil health that makes it harder for water to be asorbed underground, leading to runoff and flooding.

When we encourage the protection of peatlands in Ontario not only does that protect the habitats of species at risk like caribou, but also helps us fight climate change by keeping carbon underground.
