Agnico Eagle Mines Limited’s Corporate Manager - Health and Safety, Norm Ladouceur will be participating in Workplace Safety North’s Symposium on Battery Electric Vehicle Safety in Mines on Thursday, February 15 at 8:30 AM (ET).

The symposium will focus on safety issues around the growing use of electric vehicles at underground operations, and Norm will be sharing best practices on how to handle electric vehicle and battery fires.

Over the past decade, Agnico Eagle Mines Limited is proud to have made one of the largest cumulative corporate charitable investments in Canadian history by supporting cancer research and clinical trials at Princess Margaret Cancer Centre.

In 2021, Agnico Eagle pledged $10 million to fund the Grand Challenges competition, which supports innovative projects in two key areas: 1) Early Detection - detecting cancers earlier and intercepting them while still curable, and 2) Beyond Chemotherapy - continuing to identify more precise, customized therapies that effectively target cancer.

Today on , we recognize and remember all those affected by cancer.

In hopes of changing the future of cancer, Agnico Eagle Mines Limited has made a 10-year, $3 million commitment to the Canadian Cancer Society, to improve the lives of people affected by cancer living in rural and remote communities in Northern Ontario.

The commitment will create the Canadian Cancer Society Agnico Eagle Cancer Access and Navigation Hub, which includes improved access of Northern Ontario indigenous populations to receive culturally appropriate and relevant cancer resources and support.

Agnico Eagle Ontario’s Macassa mine is hosting two job fairs in Timmins on February 8 and 22. Be sure to drop in to learn about all the opportunities Agnico Eagle has to offer!

Agnico Eagle congratulates the Government of Canada, the Government of Nunavut and Nunavut Tunngavik Inc. on successfully signing the Devolution Agreement.
This is a historical moment and a defining milestone for Nunavut’s self-governance and ownership of its political, territorial and economic development as well as environmental stewardship. This is a defining milestone for the future of all Nunavummiut!

In 2022, Agnico Eagle Finland built and implemented a 5G network for the Kittilä mine in collaboration with Telia, Digita and Nokia. It is believed to be the first 5G network built in an underground mine, and one of the first extensive examples of 5G technology implemented in production use.

An important milestone was achieved last month at Kittilä, when the first remote underground blasts took place using the 5G network, replacing the previous system which relied on cables being pulled from the mine to the surface.

“In the past, blasters had to find and repair faults in blasting cables in different parts of the mine, which posed a safety risk to them when working in the middle of the underground traffic. Now this risk no longer exists,” says Development Engineer Tapani Kemppainen. “As operations are expanding, changes to the mine's blasting cable network would have required significant investments. With the new system, we will save on both material and labor costs,” he adds.

In total 38 blasters, supervisors, and other mining professionals were trained in the use of the new system. “Our blasters have been eagerly awaiting the introduction of the system, as it has a great impact on both occupational safety and the smooth running of work,” Tapani says
