Been a good week of fishing in Vancouver! Lots of good fishing trips and some big bites. Some rain forecasted mid week and then a return to dry weather. Give us a call if you want to get out there for the last push of migratory fish and/or the first feeder chinook of the year.

Been a very busy start to the chinook opening in Vancouver local waters. There are some nice coho around too. With no significant rain events forecasted, it looks like we should continue to have some good opportunities to target migratory salmon for a while yet!

Been a hot stretch on the water the last 10 days! We have seen some nice chinook off Gabriola Island and locally in Sidney. Some nice coho still off Bowen and even a nice halibut off Gabriola. Chinooks open in a portion of Vancouver Harbour on August 1!

We have some room this Friday morning and on Sunday if anyone is looking to get out ! Some room next week as well.

Pretty solid coho fishing the last few days in Vancouver! We have some availability coming up. We have one boat available Friday afternoon, one boat available on Saturday, am and pm, and one boat available Sunday afternoon.

Calm waters and a stellar day for a crossing to the Gulf Islands yesterday for Cory and his crew! Good ling fishing, amazing crabbing and some good salmon action. 4 oz Gibbs Fishing Power Paddles got the lings nicely!

Dimitri stretches under the sun (or was it a flex?) while working. 😁 MSF (mark selective fisheries) are currently available in parts of Georgia Strait where anglers can access hatchery chinook salmon while ensuring vulnerable stocks are not impacted. This progressive move is only possible due to the hard work by Sport Fishing Institute of BC and other members like Bon Chovy Fishing Charters. On this day, Dimitri was taking part in a reference fishery, providing needed data for Fisheries and Oceans Canada so managers can get a clearer picture on anglers' impacts in these fisheries. Currently, only about 10% of hatchery chinook salmon are marked (adipose clipped) in BC, making MSF quite limited. The goal is to change that to 100%, which would open up more hatchery chinook salmon fisheries in marine areas and at the same time protecting wild chinook salmon by using best release practices that have been determined in recent studies. This type of science-based collaboration should be supported by all anglers.

Here is a nice chinook salmon which Linda Lee caught while we were out with Bon Chovy Fishing Charters last week. There are currently areas in Georgia Strait opened to hatchery chinook salmon retention and Sidney on Vancouver Island is one area that is available for a quick day trip. Selective fisheries like this are what Sport Fishing Institute of BC has been working hard to make it a reality, and it's finally starting to happen. It gives anglers the opportunities to harvest hatchery fish which are readily available, while ensuring the survival of wild chinook salmon populations which need to be protected by practicing safe release.

The BC spot prawn season refers to when these tasty candies of the sea are available for consumers at the local fish market, but did you know that spot prawns are readily available for licenced anglers throughout the winter months? Our recent trip out with Bon Chovy Fishing Charters was a successful one. Both Life Of Linda Lee and I were able to bring back close to our possession limits of spot prawns. Jason's charters in Sidney offer guests the opportunities to fish for salmon, trap crabs and prawns in an area that finally has a hatchery marked chinook salmon retention opening in April for the first time in many years.

Sidney is the closest chinook salmon retention fishery to Vancouver. It is a calm water fish and only a quick ferry away.

In April we can target and retain hatchery chinook and also drop traps for prawns and crabs. In May, we can target and retain hatchery chinook and ling cod!

One month left in Vancouver for our winter fishery to target and retain winter chinook, prawns and crabs! On April 1st, the fishery goes to non retention for chinook salmon until mid July at the earliest!

We do have retention fisheries for chinook in April and May for hatchery chinook from our Sidney location. It is one of the few places on the south coast that will be open to keeping chinook. More information about our SIdney location here.
