This weekend the brothers of Sigma Phi Delta Theta Chapter celebrated the birthday of a very special woman.
Mary Alice Gillespie, more commonly known to Theta Chapter brothers as The Chief, served as our Haus mother for 31 years from 1963 to 1994 when she passed away at the age of 108. We honour her birthday every year by eating her favourite meal. Our pledges tell us stories about her life with Sigma Phi Delta and we all indulge in some birthday cake.
Following the birthday celebrations, our pledges partook in our annual wrestling match with the President, although with a twist this year being that they wrestled with the originator of this tradition, brother Ryan “Morty” Rickaby.
It’s celebrations like this that bring together brothers old and new, and allow us all to remember someone who meant so much to our fraternity.
