Spent some time tonight giving items, that don’t fit in our new space, a good home! Shelves, a roll cart, track lights etc are all going to thanks to a connection through a great friend, who is too emotionally stable to have his own IG account, hence, no tag 😹
is a relatively new sanctuary operating out of Mission, BC and they provide stable, loving homes to their residents who are survivors of speciesism. These non human animals are sentient just like us, but of course are not treated as such.
Had a great chat with Hugo about how to ‘turn off the taps’ so that fewer animals are born into a life of suffering- and much of that starts with you!
Every bit counts toward creating a better life for these and billions of individuals around the world- can feel very overwhelming, but we can do a lot as a team. So for those of you who are working to live a more compassionate, empathetic life- thank you.
For all you seasoned pros out there- drop your favourite tips below and above all, be sure to flex your kindness and compassion to our fellow humans to create a welcoming space! That’s my pro tip- easier said than done sometimes 😉🌱

It’s never a good time to be an animal without a family, but even worse when you are relying on an organization run by humans fearing for their lives in a humanitarian crisis- sadly, one of many around our world.
That’s why we have teamed up with to raise funds and awareness to support the animals of in Palestine.

Join us for a day of tiny tats and treats at Zimt’s HQ (…yep. We are still on *beautiful* Clark Drive) on Monday, May 20th and show your love for the animals who are in a super tough spot. Thank you 🙏🏻

Did you know that we make our nut and seed milks in house so as to avoid unnecessary packaging and petroleum usage for shipping water? We actually already have water at Zimt so use that.
Thrifted mug because already approximately 80 billion exist out there- why create demand for more when we all have enough mugs to last a lifetime- no matter how butterfingers we may be?!

PB iced mochas will be making their seasonal debut tomorrow at the cafe- you don’t need to get it with a shot of espresso if you don’t want to.
Absolutely delightful- who is a fan of our PB hot chocolate- and are you team iced, team cold or team don’t care.

Spring is *almost here*.
And not to brag but we’ve got the grass out and the fresh in with these matcha pumpkin seed butter truffles.

It’s and it’s

No shortage of winners in this owner and founder and CEO etc’s circle. NBD, or NBD?

It is full on #1 today (nervous breakdown), and, increasingly, every day, as the latent effects of the patriarchy slowly corrode what is left of my consciousness.

I learned something interesting from a podcast called The Science of Everything several months ago. Apparently, how female babies are spoken to right out of the womb is quite different compared to how male babies are spoken to. We get far more diminutive terms hurled at us right out of the gate, while male babies are more frequently referred to as ‘tough’ and ‘strong’. Though we may all be referred to as ‘so cute’ whether that is true or not. 😉

I’m no male baby, but quite frankly, I’d like to see them survive for five minutes as this thirty something year old lady.

They’re primed! All things being equal. You’re primed- likely to some degree- for success. If you’ve got it, share it. And I’ve got a lot of it. So I want to share it. I’ve still got a lot going for me. I’m mostly physically, arguably mentally, able- I’m one of the last people I would imagine ending up homeless, and I’ve got plenty of bulk goods to consume- and that, my friends, is why I do what I do.

Look at all that good stuff to work with- the safety nets, the mental and emotional fortitude that just eats away at other aspects of my being- like my vision ( )- feminism is about bringing all women to a safe and comfortable place.

Lifting one another up. All women. Or doing whatever we want, so long as it doesn’t harm anyone more vulnerable than us. This should be the standard for all humans. Let me be clear- being a woman isn’t a ‘carte Blanche’ scenario. I’m horrified daily at the impact women have on our society- not more than that of men, but still.

I hope I got that right. Honestly- others have done far, far worse.

We had a *rough* go with pens/markers for a while before I picked up a bunch from a true hero coordinator at a group (we can afford pens… but can the environment afford for us to buy more pens???) and before my friend gifted us some he ‘accumulated’ from work.
Faint as it was, this note made me 🥹
Making food in small scale manufacturing is a bizarre world, but neither little things like ideal pens nor big things like remotely affordable rent have stopped us from carrying forward the Zimt mission- it’s quite a universal mission.

The product most of you tend to be ‘sleeping on’
(Literally. Lol jk could you imagine.)
Our Salted Vanilla Bean Caramel Macaroons don’t have a flashy layer of chocolate but they don’t need it- they’re perfect as is.
Let’s appreciate things for their goodness, just the way they are. Like Laney in She’s All That. She never needed to take off her glasses- she was a hottie all along. Moreover, she seems to be written as a fairly kind albeit extremely insecure character (likely due to the stigma of wearable visual aids ie glasses being ‘uncool’)
So whether it’s taking off prescription eyewear or taking off the stigma that chocolate covered is better, it’s high time we realize that more is not more, and less is it less. It depends upon the macaroon.

Also embarrassing I didn’t almost fully realize until last year as in 2023 why it is important in particular to support businesses but through a series of unfortunate events totally get it. The patriarchy makes some very strong koolaid.

Closed today, January 13th- it’s very cold out and our plumbing at Zimt is not having it!

Not sure how I feel about it but based on .cranky.vegan ‘s analysis, kind of neutral at best- maybe?
But you never know- this may be the year for lasting change. Aha. Maybe!
And I certainly hope so- because lasting, positive change (there’s always change it could be positive or negative- it isn’t the total energy in an isolated system. Or is it.) is, undoubtedly very necessary. Many of us are shielded from that- sometimes for our whole lives.

Anyway- absolutely loved this very thoughtful review our stellar Sweet Orange Cardamom bar- it actually made me tear up because- well maybe I’ll make a little flailing IG live about that- what do you think?! Seem to enjoy them.

Aiming to reduce confusion, but here’s the thing- we don’t have consistent hours because even when we did, the cafe was quite dead. Which is unfortunate because our quality is truly second to none— cute spot, all organic ingredients (purely because we are convinced we’re better than everyone else- has nothing to do with farm workers’ rights), low waste, prices which are too low but we’ve printed the boards, genuinely tasty baked goods… yum yum.
Anyway- now you know! Come by on those days and times if you’d like- it’s in a weird spot but that’s an advantage if you’re not into seeing many people (a strategic location if there ever was one 😉)

Wow. It’s been such an interesting week, in some ways.
It’s getting to be the season ppl realize how much they like chocolate- if only we had such awareness in July- imagine what the world could be.
A heavy lifting week. Thankful for the team- whether they’re here or not, but especially when they’re here because quite frankly what would we be if we didn’t have amazing chocolate etc to sell. Somebody creates that.
Also- machines create it. So much can be said for automation and we’ve had a big year in that respect- one more little piece to go.
But making 64 Salted Vanilla Bean Caramel Macaroons last night reminded me of how thankful I am for our giant, gorgeous new machine that makes them much more efficiently than ever before- by miles. But I wasn’t going to power it up at 7pm to make what actually only needed to be 36 macaroons- I’m a business person.
And I only had to form them (not even make bc macaroon team did that) because we’re in a weird bind and quite frankly because the recipient was counting on them- a fellow small business. Would I do that for Jeffery Bezos? Absolutely not- in fact, I doubt I’ll ever text him back at this point.
It’s Small Business Month and I’m happy to hustle for my friends in the industry, so that we all can grow our businesses and increase our investment portfolios. We’ll celebrate on my pink yacht next time, guys. 💕Or the lilac one- you decide 💜
