JAMES GORDANEER | FALL 2023 FINE ART AUCTION Titled "Discarded", signed and dated (19)74 lower right, watercolour on paper, sight 20.3 x 29.2cm (8 x 11 1/2in); Provenance: Merton Gallery, Toronto; James Gordaneer, Canadian, born 1933
In 1974, Jim was chasing after 2-year-old Jeremy Gordaneer and doing a lot of watercolors, which took less time than full-sized paintings.
This one, titled "Discarded," references Jim's yellow Volkswagen that was replaced by a bigger Datsun station wagon when Jeremy came along.
The piece is up for online auction on November 17, 2023 - a great chance for someone to pick up a nice piece of original artwork for themselves or a loved one. https://gardnergalleries.com/auctions/fall-2023-fine-art-auction/lot/144961
This lovely piece, "Summer Idyll," is currently in the window at Lunds Auctions, Victoria. This piece is from 2013, two years after Jim recovered from a catastrophic stroke that took away his ability to walk. It renewed his commitment to painting, though, and he often felt that he had survived the stroke in order to create some of his best works.
Please follow to see a retrospective of Jim's work on Instagram, starting now and continuing through this year.

It's been a year now since Jim left us, and we miss him, unspeakably, every day.
How fortunate we are to have so many of his paintings around--it's like he's left us with tangible pieces of his thought and perceptions, which continue to touch us with his physical presence. This is the true, and lasting, gift of art.

Jim's feeding tube was removed today. That sounds drastic, but it's for good reason--he can eat all real food again!
