Join us SATURDAY February 24, from 5-7 pm at 750 Fairfield Rd. for the opening of a community art project by and for Black folks living on the Lekwungen and W'SANEC territories known as "victoria". Exploring the multidimensionality of Blackness in this place and making space for us to come together, share pieces of our lives, and imagine a future in community.

Who are we? How do we see ourselves? What is our relationship with this place we find ourselves living in? How do we find community?

Artists' Statement for Grace Salez and Judith Price

"We are practicing artists who have worked in various media over a three-decade period, with a long history of collaboration. We have chosen to represent our work on 4 different monitors; one monitor to represent our collaborative work with each other, another monitor to represent our collaborative work with Open Action & other events. The third and fourth monitors are placed back to back, one representing Judith’s independent art practice, and the other representing Grace’s independent art practice in various media; film, video, multi-channel installations, and performances.Interestingly, our practices have intersected over time, with Grace moving from film/video to include performance and Judith moving from performance to include video/film.

Our latest collaboration was a performance for camera, the 5th iteration of our work ‘Folding’, which explores themes of women's work. We will also show videos from our participation in Open Action, a Victoria based performance collective. This 11-year ongoing social art experiment enables us to engage directly and intuitively to the specifics of site, to the ephemerality of time, to the presence of each other and the presence of public activity."
