We’re back for another round of this or that with Team CIBC Athlete Christine Sinclair! This time, it’s practice edition — what are your favourite ways to gear up for a game?

Un an après mon départ à la retraite, j’étais confrontée à la réalité de me séparer de mon mari avec qui j’étais mariée depuis 30 ans. Je n’avais aucune idée de la façon dont j’allais réussir sur le plan financier. C’était une énorme transition de vie.

En cette période chaotique, je voulais la stabilité de vivre dans la maison que j’appelais mon chez-moi depuis des années. Le prêt hypothécaire a été remboursé il y a longtemps. Cependant, pour conserver la propriété, je devais acheter la partie de la maison de mon ex-mari. J’ai eu la chance de rencontrer ma conseillère Andrea. Nous nous sommes bien entendues dès le départ. Je lui ai parlé de ma situation et de mes objectifs. Andrea pouvait voir tous les côtés de la situation. Elle m’a aidée à élaborer un plan financier. J’ai obtenu une marge de crédit sur valeur nette de la propriété pour obtenir les fonds dont j’avais besoin. C’était un grand soulagement.

Je suis très reconnaissante d’avoir eu le soutien d’Andrea. C’était probablement l’année la plus difficile de ma vie, mais j’ai atteint la sécurité financière grâce à ses conseils. J’ai l’esprit tranquille maintenant que je sais que j’ai le contrôle total de mes finances.

I was a year into retirement and facing the reality of separating from my husband of 30 years. I had no idea how I was going to make my finances work. It was a huge life transition.

During this chaotic time, I wanted the stability of this house I'd called home for years. The mortgage was paid off long ago. But to keep the property, I needed to buy my ex-husband out. I was lucky to meet my advisor Andrea. It was a great match right away. I told her about my situation and goals. Andrea could see all sides. She helped me come up with a financial plan. I took out a home equity line of credit to get the necessary funds. It was such a relief.

I'm so grateful that I had Andrea's support. It was probably the hardest year of my life, but I found financial security with her guidance. I have peace of mind now knowing I have full control over my finances.

Every year, Bonivital Soccer Club welcomes newcomers in Canada to play, connect, and build community in an inclusive space. To celebrate the good they’re doing, CIBC held a surprise event with two-time Olympic medalist Stephanie Labbé , who showed these young players a thing or two on the pitch! We’re stronger when we come together, and sometimes, it’s over a game of soccer. ⚽
