This post is long overdue.. as many of you know we had to scale back our cafe at the start of covid. So we had only been serving coffees and samosas for the past 2 years.
Then recently our beautiful beast of a coffee machine died and unfortunately it just wasn’t worth it to invest in fixing it and restarting the cafe in our Function location.
Recently we moved our store into the village and many of you have been asking us if the cafe came with us. Unfortunately the answer is no, it’s not possible for us in the new location 🥺💔
Those of you that know me, know that not having the plant based cafe alongside the vintage store breaks my heart. 😭
Promoting sustainability on every level is so important to me and I understand that eating a plant based diet is as important if not more important than buying secondhand clothing, if we want to truly reduce our impact on the planet.
I think the fact that I can’t have a cafe in our new space is the universes way of forcing me to focus on one business at a time for now, but I want you all to know I have not and will never stop fighting to get our cafe back in action, in the not too distant future!
I want to say a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to all of you that supported us and everyone that will be patiently awaiting our return!

Our beautiful beast of a machine has said his goodbyes 👼🏼😵
Dont worry it’s not forever but for the next month while we wait on parts for a new machine, we’ll be kicking it old school with some good ol fashioned drip coffee and tea on the drinks menu.

The Velvet Cafe inside The Velvet Underground

The Velvet Cafe is a collection of our personal favourite wholesome snacks, treats, drinks, and meals. Come for a good chat, a quiet place to work or a grab-and-go on your way to work!

We serve the freshest food from 100% plant-based ingredients, but you wouldn't know it unless we told you! All of our food, condiments and nut milks are handmade here in the store, with the exception of a couple local vendors. We serve bread from Bred by Ed, who use plant-based ingredients and grains sourced from Whistler. The cafe's non-dairy and vegan Cheeze is from Black Sheep which is handmade in BC's Okanagan. We want to guarantee everything we make is real food, made with love!

Our coffee is all from Vancouver's East Van Coffee Roasters who use organic fair-trade beans.They are also a social enterprise supporting and helping disadvantaged women re-join the workforce. Not only do they help out in the community, but their coffee is AMAZING.

Packaging and added chemicals in processed and mass-produced food have a horrible impact on the environment. We want to do our best to protect our planet and educate others so they can do the same. We couldn't be more proud to be working alongside such amazing businesses dedicated to making this world a better place and helping others.
