As for our stance in the referendum, WIRC is in support of LSRC. Ask your local executives why we support it.

Hello everyone! Last week on Wednesday, a new referendum has been launched on whether or not to accept a new fee for building a new sports complex

WIRC has voted that Wednesday to endorse the referendum as we say that the benefits of LSRC for residence students justify the increase in ancillary fees.

We understand that everyone will have their own perspective on the matter. We ask for one thing from all our students: please read through the referendum question and go through both the Vote Yes and Vote No pages and go vote this Wednesday and Thursday. If you have any more questions, please direct them to your WIRC executives and the following pages below.

As a wise person once told: Don't let other people influence your decision to vote. If it works for you, vote yes and if it doesn't, vote no. If it goes through, and you said yes, good for you. If you voted no, life goes on. And if it does not go through, and you said yes, life goes on and you voted no, good for you.

Referendum Question:
“Be it resolved that an annual capital fee of $125.00 per student ($62.50 per term for a maximum of two terms per academic year) be levied on all members of the UWSA to support the construction of a new Lancer Sport and Recreation Centre (LSRC).

Be it further resolved that this fee shall be assessed commencing Fall 2019 or in the academic year that the building becomes operational, whichever comes later;

Be it further resolved that the fee shall increase by an annual increment of 5% per year for the first seven (7) years only;

Be it further resolved that in 2029, when the existing Sports & Recreation capital fee expires, the LSRC capital fee shall increase by the amount of that fee at that time;

Be it further resolved that the term of this fee shall be 30 years;

Be it further resolved that all fees generated shall be used exclusively to support the LSRC capital project.
