Dragon Den Audition
It is a blistery, cold Manitoba morning as the inventor is searching for a parking lot near the CBC building in Winnipeg. As he opened the door to CBC, his heart is pounding in anticipation. What will it be like to audition his invention? Will the judges like his invention?

He was handed a waiting ticket with the number 7. Good, my lucky number he thought. He is led into the waiting room filled with contestants waiting nervously to pitch their new products. It’s a large room with a huge TV screen on a wall. All contestants are facing the same way glancing at the TV but occasionally looking at other contestants in hope to relieve some of their nervous tension. Waiting seemed like hours and hours with inventor’s heart still beating like running in a marathon. The Dragon Den’s hostess makes her rounds, asking each contestant a few questions. Then more waiting until the whole room is filled with anxious contestants. The inventor looks at his waiting ticket. I am the seventh contestant to give my pitch, he thought and stuck the ticket back into his pocket. More and more waiting till number seven is called. Better check the waiting ticket one more time; yes, I am number seven, he reassured himself.

More waiting and waiting with sweaty palms. NUMBER SEVEN, the hostess calls. His heart is pounding in his chest. He took a deep breath and stood up, following the hostess into a small waiting area near the presentation room. He can hear somebody give their “spiel” but it’s not quite audible. Finally, he is led into the presentation room with three judges sitting behind a table. The inventor calmed down and gave a convincing presentation for a great product.

He was sure that we would be called to Toronto to appear on Dragon’s Den but he was never called. He realized that his presentation lacked market testing. A lesson well learned.
