Michael J. Fox Requested ‘No Violins’ for Emotional Yet Joyful Doc ‘Still’ 06/28/2023

“The music really had to take on all the different personalities of the water itself, the inertia of this massive force I was tasked with not only the diversity of the ecosystems but the range of how the water changes over its whole journey, how it changed and progressed.” – Erica Procunier on her Original Music in Great Lakes Untamed

Well it happened…..companions for Winston arrived last night in the form of three small 3-month-old sisters from Waywayseecappo, Manitoba.

Sadly their mother is deceased and we were told she was struck by a vehicle. (Edit, Apr. 24th; she is now believed to have been shot). The cubs were on their own for 2 days, staying near to their mother and were found hiding in a culvert. Thank you to Natural Resources staff for catching and bringing them to our facility.

Upon arrival the cubs were vet checked and despite being on their own they were given a clean bill of health and had good energy. Two of the cubs are black and both weigh 9.2 lbs, the 3rd being brown and 9.8 lbs. We’re feeding them milk replacer every 3 hours, soon to increase to 4 hours and they’re having no trouble switching from nursing to drinking from a bowl.

All bears have their own personality so there is a very shy cub (on the right in photo), a bold one (in the middle acting feisty) and on the left is the sister who falls somewhere in between.

We always watch for newly arrived cubs to play for the first time as the sign they’re settling in and getting over the trauma of losing their mom and having their whole world turned upside down, so we were very pleased to see them playing already today! Generally, very young cubs like this adjust faster than older cubs and it also really helps that they have each other. Winston will meet his 3 new “sisters” once they’re all settled in and are on the same feeding schedule. He’ll definitely be the big brother as he now weighs 14.8 lbs!

It’s very unfortunate that these 3 cubs lost their mother but as sad as it is for them, it’s very good that Winston will now have companions.

Oscars 2023: Canada’s big night is wake-up call for resource-strapped film industry 03/14/2023

This Academy Award win is a powerful testament to the strength of Canadian talent! But as we celebrate this momentous achievement, we must also consider the need for further support for our homegrown filmmakers. We must continue to develop, support and push forward a truly viable Canadian film industry, one that will offer our talented storytellers the resources and opportunities they need to fully realize their visions.

"We often think of the Amazon as important, but the Great Lakes watershed has almost one quarter of the Earth's fresh water sitting in it. And so for that reason, one can argue that's a giant part of the Earth and in a world short of freshwater, it's never been more important."
