Bead Basics Series (4/7) : Bead Types or Shapes
There is such an array of seed beads that the possibilities for creation are endless! Traditional rounded seed beads are called Rocaille beads, used for anything from bead embroidery to loom work to fringe earrings. Delicas are cylindrical shaped beads that are perfect for structured work due to their precise shape.
There are various shaped beads such as bugle, triangle, hexagon and square or cube beads. There are other shaped beads such as SuperDuos and Tilas that have two holes that run parallel to eachother. There are beads with cuts on the surface to produce a facet, giving the bead a reflective surface to give it a shimmer, such as Charlotte beads 1-cut, 2-cut and 3-cut beads.
So many beads to choose from!
Has anyone told you lately that YOU are AMAZING?! Well, we're going to! Thank you to all of those who have supported us through the years. People like you are who make small businesses thrive and we would not be here without YOU!
So thank you, thank you, THANK YOU! Keep on being your AMAZING self! xoxo
Sincerely,
the Poco Team
Are you Fringin' this year? Winnipeg Fringe Festival is on from July 17th to the 28th and there is always so much to see! Is there anything about Fringe that inspires you in other ways? We managed to pull beads from the colour pallet of the poster and came up with a nice match, don't you think?!
Bead Basics Series (3/7) : Bead Colour Names
Bead producers and manufactures do not name bead colours; it is the suppliers that name them! And to top it off, names can vary from supplier to supplier. Always use the bead number code as that will be consistent between suppliers. If you look closely at the photo, you will notice our colour names for the same colour number varies with some of our bead sizes! Ooops! (We are working on fixing this... π )
That being said, if there is a specific colour bead you would like us to try and order, we need that colour number! Colour names and pictures do not work! As mentioned above, colour names vary and the colour in pictures can vary from screen to screen as well as our own perception of the colour! This also does not cover the variation that may come from some finishβs dye lots during manufacturing!
we like to call it "organized chaos"
have 170328479823 tabs open in our brains for patterns, colour inspos, design inspiration and about 97 other things. but know where they all are and don't you dare touch it!
Have you seen our Subscription Boxes? Here is a peak at July's boxes!
Our boxes are a colour inspiration based box sometimes with a little something extra to aid in your work or something that could hint at a potential project to help stimulate those creative juices. Currently, we carry a Seed Bead box, a Delica box and a Bead Embroidery box. We offer them as a monthly subscription or a one time purchase.
If you would like to see them in person or find out more, come visit us in store! If you would like to activate a subscription for yourself or someone you love, visit us online a pocobeads.com. Follow the Home Tab to Subscription Boxes for all the options available to you! We can ship throughout Canada and the USA, or you can pick-up in store!

Bead Basics Series (2/7) : Brands at Poco
Czech, Miyuki Rounds and Miyuki Delicas - oh my! These are the bead brands we carry here at Poco Inspired!
Czech Glass Seed Beads - Rounded, donut-shaped beads. Size and shape may very slightly and colour may vary from dye lot to dye lot. Here at Poco Inspired, we carry a higher quality Czech bead so the inconsistency isnβt as significant as the lower quality beads. Czech beads are great for beginners because of their lower price point. They can be used in a variety of ways but the most common use our customers have for them is for their bead embroidery projects!
Miyuki Round - A Japanese bead manufacturer of seed and cylinder beads, including but not limited to the Delica brand. Their beads are considered very high quality. They are more consistent in their size and shape making them ideal for loom work and brick stitch, among others.
Miyuki Delica - High quality cylinder-shaped seed beads by Miyuki of Japan. Available in sizes 8/0, 10/0, 15/0 and most commonly 11/0. These beads are perfect for structured geometric work due to the precise cylinder shape. They are thinner walled than regular round beads.
There are many other bead brands available on the market varying from quality and availability on the Canadian market. Other brands you may come across include Aiko, Toho, Matsuno and various Chinese, Thailand and Italian Glass Seed Beads.
if there is infact... any mind left to loose..
