Debunking Oat MYTHS! 🌀
There’s been a lot of buzz about oats lately—claims that they spike blood sugar, are too high in carbs, or concerns about pesticides. But don’t be quick to drop them from your diet! These claims lack solid evidence. In fact, science overwhelmingly supports that oats are beneficial for your health and should stay in your breakfast routine.
WHY Oats Are GOOD for You 🥣
Oats are packed with fibre, which helps lower “bad” LDL cholesterol, stabilize blood sugar, and keep you feeling full longer. Plus, they’re rich in essential nutrients like manganese, magnesium, and iron—making them a great choice for heart health and overall wellness.
Not all oats are created equal!
STEEL-CUT OATS 🌾 are the least processed, with a chewy texture and nutty flavor. They take longer to cook but retain the most nutrients.
QUICK OATS🌾 are more processed, cooking faster but with slightly fewer nutrients.
For the best health benefits, stick with steel-cut or rolled oats.

🤨Today’s story question was asking what you thought this post was going to be about.
As many of you already know, I like to post the benefits of healthy eating and prioritizing nutrition and looking for the benefits that don’t involve a weight scale! Sadly, many continue to look at the scale as the only source of validation of all their efforts! 🤦🏻♀️ We need to change this mindset!
This client shared with me that her hairdresser noticed a significant change in the texture and volume of her hair. She has been making important dietary and lifestyle changes for over a year now! And while she has achieved and maintained significant outcomes and benefits, her hair was a surprise to her! 🤯
Nutrition plays a crucial role in maintaining healthy hair. A balanced diet rich in vitamins, minerals, and proteins is essential for promoting hair growth and strength. Nutrients like biotin, vitamin C, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids play key roles in supporting hair follicles and maintaining overall scalp health. And she achieved this without spending hundreds of $$$ on expensive over-the-counter supplements.
➡️ Incorporating a variety of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, omega-3 rich fish, healthy fats such as avocado and milled flax, and a greater emphasis on plant-based proteins ensures that the body receives these vital nutrients. Additionally, staying hydrated is important for maintaining hair moisture and elasticity.
Yesterday‘s story focused on “practicing” a healthy mindset. Look for opportunities each and every day to make small, sustainable improvements to the types of foods you’re consuming and the consistency of eating a healthier diet day to day. Your diet does not need to involve a major overhaul!
Have fun this weekend but keep your eye on your own self-care and “practice” healthy eating whether it is a Monday morning or Friday night! ☀️

🙌🏻 Many of my followers know that I have been working hard at my “passion project” these past few years while balancing a full-time private practice! We named this 👉🏻 Project Thrive and it is for youth ages 10+ yrs. 😊
It all started from observations in my clinical practice. Connecting with children one-on-one in a clinical setting (medical office) to discuss their eating habits and food choices proved very difficult especially to engage them! I knew we needed to address much more that their diet - and we needed to engage them in a way that involves their peers in a non-clinical setting and focuses on education and positive, empowering approaches!
At the City of Vaughan, my team .with.freedom and joined me to meet with Recreation program planners and Business personnel and we had an amazing conversation of what Project Thrive is and how our young community can benefit!
The community programs within the City are diverse but does not include a comprehensive program such as what we created with Project Thrive.
We have a special announcement! Our 8 Week program facilitated by Registered Dietitians and Registered Social Worker has been condensed for a ONE-DAY INTENSIVE on June 22nd from 930-4pm in Vaughan and its complimentary! You need to REGISTER by June 8th as spaces are limited!

Happy Saturday everyone! My clients know that there are many “food for thought” messages that I give during our sessions and here is just one! This client loves to craft and she created her own water bottle with one of my messages…love it !
“It’s not all for nothing”….I know you have to wrap your head around this one! The context that I often use this statement is when a client says….
“I have made some many changes to what and how I am eating and I have incorporated exercise into my life, and I’ve cut down on my wine, and I’ve tried to get better with my sleep…and…and…and l’m not seeing any changes on the scale”! 😤
My response to this and it’s almost a daily is “firstly, step off the scale and don’t look to it for your source of validating all your efforts!” Just 🛑!
Diet culture and the weight loss industry has tainted the minds of so many to believe that JUST BECAUSE you have made an important decision to change your habits that you MUST SEE WEIGHT LOSS! Nope! That’s not how it works! There are soooo many variables that influence weight loss (in fact over 100 have been identified ➡️ check out “Obesity System Map”). Next, choosing to make these important changes in your life at this time go far beyond any number on a scale that you do not have 💯% control over!
Instead, focus on what YOU do have control over and look for all the other amazing benefits! Making these important dietary and lifestyle changes are “NOT ALL FOR NOTHING” if you are not “seeing” changes on a weight scale! Most of the time, clients are:
✅ dropping inches and dress/pant sizes
✅ better digestive function and less gas, bloating and constipation
✅less joint pain and better mobility
✅better mood and less brain fog and improved memory
✅less cravings and realization that food does not control them!
✅less hot flashes
✅better sleep
Are these changes not worthy of attention and are they not validating enough? Why is it that the ONLY thing that matters is this “number”! Get off the scale and look at so many other positive outcomes for the effort you are putting into YOU!
What other non-scale outcomes have you witnessed in your change journeys? Let’s share ⬇️⬇️⬇️

Enhancing Bone Health Through Diet!
Here’s a quick guide to calcium content in some common foods:
🍽️🍊🐟🍓🫐🧀🍌🥛🥬
1️⃣ Include Dairy or Plant-Based Alternatives in Your Diet: Start your day with a creamy bowl of Greek yogurt topped with fresh berries for a breakfast packed with calcium and protein. Enjoy a midday snack of sliced cheese or plant-based cheese with whole-grain crackers. For those opting for plant-based alternatives, look for options fortified with calcium, aiming for products that provide around 30% of the recommended daily intake of calcium per serving.
2️⃣ Age-specific Intake: Consider age-specific intake by incorporating dairy into meals tailored to different life stages. Teenagers can benefit from a post-workout smoothie made with milk, banana, and spinach while seniors may enjoy a bowl of oatmeal made with fortified milk.
3️⃣ Prioritize Dairy Protein & Plant-Based Options: Boost your bone mineral density with dairy protein and diversify your sources by including tofu. When choosing tofu for your stir-fries or salads, look for one made with a calcium coagulant to ensure you’re getting more calcium - a perfect plant-based complement to dairy.
4️⃣ Nutrient Support: Support bone health with nutrient-rich meals like a spinach and feta cheese omelet, packed with calcium and vitamin D.
5️⃣ Non-Dairy Alternatives: While there are calcium-fortified plant-based alternatives available, not all of them provide ample protein. Be sure to check the protein content when selecting your options. Explore calcium-fortified soy, almond, or rice beverages, or indulge in protein-rich choices like tofu and leafy greens to meet your nutritional needs.
Remember, these delicious and nutritious choices can help keep your bones strong and resilient! 💪🦴
💪🥛 Don’t let osteoporosis sneak up on you! Learn about calcium-rich foods from Osteoporosis Canada. 🦴
💪 🍽️ Bone is living tissue, renewing itself constantly. As we age, maintaining bone health becomes crucial. Adequate calcium intake supports the bone remodeling process, essential for resilience. Studies show it can slow bone loss and reduce fracture risk. Ensure you’re getting enough calcium and protein for strong bones. Explore calcium-rich alternatives like fortified soy or almond beverages, and canned salmon. 🦴

Easter greetings to all my Catholic followers & their families. While Easter is not symbolized by bunnies for me, here’s a super cute & simple reminder to keep your Easter traditions aligned with your personal healthy eating goals!
Healthy eating includes enjoying some of your favourite Easter traditions - mine are all sweet memories such as my mother’s Pastiera, homemade Easter bread that I make each year with my kids, and my mother in law’s fig and nut filled cookies that she bakes with boiled eggs! Enjoy mindfully and be sure to choose from a wide variety of foods including these colourful vegetables & yummy dips. This is also a time to reflect on the true meaning of Easter and God’s glory and greatest sacrifice.
Wishing you a joyful Easter surrounded by loved ones!

🍓🍓🍓With all the fresh strawberries on sale in the grocery stores this weekend, why not add them to your muffins? Fresh berries will work well in baked goods and here’s one recipe you can try. Of course you can enjoy your chocolate covered strawberries 😋 on ♥️ Valentine’s Day ♥️ too but this is definitely one to add to your morning routine this week! Enjoy!!
INGREDIENTS
2 cups whole wheat flour plus 2 tsp
2 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
½ cup unsalted butter, or non-hydrogenated margarine or vegan butter
1/2 cup sugar or maple syrup (adjust to your preference)
2 large omega-3 eggs
1½ teaspoons vanilla extract
½ cup milk or plant-based alternative such as soy beverage
2 1/2 cups diced strawberries, fresh (or frozen) or other berries you have on hand!
👩🏻🍳Method of Preparation:
1. Preheat oven to 375°F.
2. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with paper liners
3. In a medium bowl, sift flour, baking powder and salt.
4. In a separate bowl, mix maple syrup (or sugar) and butter until well blended.
5. Add the eggs one at a time, scraping down the sides of the bowl and beating well after each addition.
6. Add in the vanilla extract.
7. Slowly add the flour mixture in 2 separate additions, alternating with the milk and flour.
8. Toss the strawberries with 2 teaspoons of flour (this will keep them from sinking to the bottom). Set ½ cup of the berries aside.
9. Add the remaining berries to the batter and fold with a spatula until evenly distributed.
10. Spoon the batter into the prepared muffin tin. Sprinkle the reserved berries over the muffins.
11. Bake for 30 minutes, and check doneness with a toothpick or cake tester.
12. Let muffins cool in the pan for about 15 - 20 minutes. Enjoy 🍓🍓🍓
Today’s Trends Agenda:
1️⃣ Connected to a Wider World: Embracing
Multicultural Cuisines
2️⃣ Eating for optimal immunity and overall health
⬇️⬇️⬇️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️ ⬇️⬇️⬇️
1️⃣ Connected to a Wider World: Embracing
Multicultural Cuisines 🌐
⭐️DID YOU KNOW?⭐️
Generation Alpha (those born after
2012), enjoys a multicultural peer group, which significantly influences their culinary tastes.
They are more adventurous in their food choices, readily embracing a wide variety of global flavors and dishes.
This openness has led to a transformation, catering to a generation that is born with a multicultural palate in a connected world.
💡💡💡Have you been curious about exploring a new cultural cuisine? Why not seize the opportunity and book a reservation this weekend to finally taste that dish you’ve been longing to try?
2️⃣ Eating for optimal immunity and overall health 🩺
Maintaining good health is undoubtedly a priority for many.
Foods that support a healthy gut and immune system will remain popular in 2024:
➡️ PREBIOTICS are dietary fibres from whole grains, onions, garlic, bananas, tomatoes and legumes; these are foods for probiotics.
➡️ PROBIOTICS are live and active bacteria that bring health benefits, such as improved immunity and digestion!!
Examples include kimchi, yogurt, kefir, Sauerkraut and Kombucha!
💡💡💡Not all foods must be dairy to contain probiotics.
💡💡💡To find out if the product is a true probiotic product, always read the packaging and look for the term ‘probiotic’ and the amount and types of active live strains of bacteria present.

This year, the compass of nutrition points towards an array of exciting and innovative trends.
Let’s uncover the predictions of 2024’s most influential food and nutrition movements.
On Today’s Agenda:
1️⃣ Plant-Based Diets for Personal and Planetary Health
2️⃣ Online Grocery Shopping, AI Technology and Convenience
———————————————————————
1️⃣ Plant-Based Diets for Personal and Planetary Health:
The trend towards plant-based diets continues to grow. 🥑🫛🫘🥙
This shift is driven by a recognition that plant-based diets can significantly reduce carbon footprints 👣 and promote biodiversity, helping to address climate change and environmental degradation.
⭐️HOW MAY THIS WORK FOR YOU?⭐️
The plant forward movement focuses on
a balanced approach to incorporating plant-based foods while enjoying meat and dairy in moderation. ⚖️
⭐️ONE WAY TO GET STARTED!⭐️
Adopt a flexitarian diet, also known as semi-vegetarian, where one consumes primarily plant-based foods and enjoys meat and dairy products in moderation.
2️⃣ Online Grocery Shopping, AI Technology and Convenience
We are more reliant on technology for meal planning, grocery shopping and meal prep more than ever. 🧑🏽💻👩🏼💻👩🏾💻👨🏻💻
Reshaping how Canadians interact with their food choices, enhancing user experiences through personalized recommendations, predictive shopping lists, and streamlined delivery processes. 🛒
⭐️USING AI TECHNOLOGY WITH CAUTION!⭐️
AI technology offers a wealth of information however it is crucial to use AI with caution, especially when it comes to personalized health and nutrition advice. 🚨
As it largely depends on existing online information, this poses a significant challenge as the internet is a sea of misinformation.
It can be challenging for AI to discern credible sources from inaccurate ones – the advice provided by AI may not always be accurate or in line with evidence-based practices.
⭐️WHERE TO SEEK GUIDANCE?⭐️
Tailored nutrition advice from a registered dietitian can significantly improve outcomes in various health conditions like diabetes, digestive health, fatty liver, and nutritional supplement recommendations to name a few! #2024
