Stress at work is a challenge that many of us have to face. It's encouraging to see companies increasingly recognize the importance of giving their employees the tools to manage stress.
We are conducting right now an exciting stress and management seminar for a leading company in Zürich, Switzerland. At a time when hundreds of thousands of people in Switzerland are at risk of burnout, it is crucial to take preventative measures and develop the right skills to deal with the stresses of modern working life.
Our seminar is helping participants to identify stress factors, learn effective stress management strategies, and develop a healthy way of dealing with the demands of everyday working life. We firmly believe that this improves employee well-being and increases productivity and company success.
If you would like to learn more about this issue's urgency, I recommend reading this insightful article. https://www.srf.ch/news/wirtschaft/stress-am-arbeitsplatz-hunderttausende-in-der-schweiz-sind-burnout-gefaehrdet . The survey makes it clear: 17 percent of adults have experienced burnout, and 25 percent of employees feel that they are at risk of burnout because of their work.
Let's work together to create a healthier and more stress-resistant working world. I would be happy to assist you if you are interested in our seminar or would like further information. Contact: [email protected]
Today I had the chance to visit one of my favourite customers, a Swiss chocolate company, situated on the shore of the Zürich Lake. The beautiful office, the "flavoures" in the factory, together with the sun and the beautiful landscapes shaped the wonderful day. We provided corporate back checks for the employees, a great health promotion strategy, with big impact and profitable results. The health checks have the potential to benefit both employees and the companies they work for. The programs help identify health risks and improve employee well-being. Our checks focus on posture, mobility and stability of the back. The medical professionals (trained nurses or physiotherapists) perform a state-of-the-art check and analysis that provides valuable information and recommendations for therapy and exercise planning. Understandable graphics illustrate the current condition of the back. Based on the detailed results, employees can train their back muscles specifically in the future and prevent complaints. Our specialists have already carried out several thousand measurements over the last 10 years; the back checks are in great demand in companies and are very well received. We are so happy to see that more and more companies care about the health of the employees, which remains essential for the success of a company.
Did you know that sunshine, flowers and creative activities play a big role in our happiness levels? My new blog post explains how you can design and organise your home, work environment and leisure activities to feel better. Did you know that flowers and plants have very special effects on our mood and well-being? A study in the Journal of Experimental Psychology found that employees in offices with plants had higher levels of job satisfaction and concentration than those in offices without plants. If you need even more ideas, check out our company joycorporate.ch, which organises creative workshops in the workplace - from Easter decorations to painting classes. We've already started running creative, colourful and lively spring workshops in companies. 🙂 Floral decoration workshops, with organic, seasonal flowers or other workshops on sustainability and health: "Earth Day at the office", "Health Week", "Diversity and Inclusion". 🔸️The consulting firm Virgin Pulse surveyed 1.5 million workers in 4,500 different companies worldwide. Around three quarters of those surveyed feel stressed at work, and over a third feel extremely stressed. Many employees showed the first signs of impending stress-related illnesses. In the worst cases, it can even lead to death - in the US there are around 120,000 cases a year.
Stress can be good and even a motivator! Good stress, also known as eustress, is "the positive stress response involving optimal levels of stimulation," according to the American Psychological Association (APA). In other words, it is stress that may arise from doing something demanding but enjoyable.
Burnout is not recognized in the international classification system for psychiatric diagnoses, YET. Many specialists still consider burnout to be a form of depression. But it is not. Depression is general, does not have work overload as the main trigger and extends over a long period of time. With burnout, the situation changes as soon as you move away from the strenuous activity itself.
Burnout is a serious phenomenon that affects many people. The consequences are not just about lack of productivity and motivation, but in some cases serious health consequences. To prevent this from happening, active preventive measures should be considered.
Last week, we facilitated a webinar about Stress and Burnout together with Aurelie Litynski, for Adobe Switzerland, in order to increase awareness about this serious syndrome, with several consequences to people's well-being and health.

Checking emails on the weekend, finishing a presentation, or moving up unfinished work, so you don't get overwhelmed on Monday morning? Unfortunately, this is increasingly the reality for many workers. The pandemic of forced home offices hasn't necessarily helped, as the lines between work and personal, or family, lives have increasingly blurred. The lack of a commute to work, arranged breaks with work colleagues, and a clear end to the workday with a walk home, has further contributed to the loss of clear boundaries between work and leisure. As a result, it is difficult for many people around the world to find a between and private , even though home office has been praised by many as a means of achieving a better -life balance.

It's really mean. Finally, the sun is shining, the days are getting longer and the outdoor season is slowly starting. The long-awaited spring is here! But unfortunately, many people lack the desired energy and already the morning is accompanied by yawning. This can be very frustrating and tedious because it's actually a wonderful time to watch nature reawaken.
This fatigue is a common health problem this time of year.

How to raise employees' performance almost for free?
When we want our car to drive faster, we improve its engine. In the same way, when we want our company to perform better, we must improve our employees' performance.
The comparison above is not far from true because employees are the engine of a company.
Fortunately, the major difference when we work with people is that we have the opportunity to improve their performance almost for free, by focusing on the main feeling that drives their level of performance:
Their happiness.
A set of stats aggregated by snacknation.com show that:
• Companies with happy employees outperform the competition by 20%.
• Happy salespeople produce 37% greater sales.
• Employees who report being happy at work take 10x fewer sick days than unhappy employees.
Therefore, happiness is the fuel that fires their desire for performance, and most of the time we don't need huge investments to make the employees happy.
What we need, instead, is a clear strategy based on empathy, honesty, and guidance through self example.
In our recently launched seminar "How to increase the commitment and loyalty of employees", we dedicate an entire chapter to Happiness in the workplace, covering concepts like
- The science behind happiness
- The relation between happiness and potential, performance, and outcome
- The secrets of leading with happiness

Do your employees have a healthy work-life balance?
We use to say that work must remain work, and life must remain life, so we should let go of all the stress and tension we accumulate during the day and let the relaxation and good mood embrace us at home.
However, we know very well that this is not the case. In fact, in most cases, it is virtually impossible to achieve such a level of mental and emotional control.
Therefore, we often carry the stress of work at home, and this is toxic both for our loved ones and especially for us, who are to blame.
Equally, things work in the opposite direction. The negative emotions we create at home bring them back to work, which, in the end, it will weaken the ability to provide superior work performance.
Did you know that, only in the US, burnout costs companies between $125 billion and $190 billion every year in healthcare costs?
According to Forbes, burnout is also responsible for 20% to 50% - or even more - of employee turnover.
Having a healthy work-life balance is essential for one’s health and well-being, so companies have to stand up and start carrying more about their employees' work-life balance, otherwise this issue will have a direct impact on the company's performance.
In our recently launched seminar "How to increase the commitment and loyalty of employees", we analyze in-depth the causes that lead to this imbalance and offer professional solutions to rebalance work with personal life, thus ensuring a harmonious work environment, conducive to performance.

Sitting at work is the new "smoking"
Modern jobs and office space can be a source of great harm to our health. We spend up to 70% of our day sitting, which is associated with an increased risk of obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and cancer.
This is why - not surprisingly - the meeting is called "new smoking" by health experts.
This health crisis is not only reducing the quality of life of workers but is costing their employers more absenteeism and lower productivity, as well as rising healthcare costs.
Therefore, it is important to be aware of how office design affects our well-being and to begin to consider this when designing offices for your employees.
There are many different methods that companies can use for this purpose. Some options include standing desks, sitting on exercise balls, using treadmills, or sitting on inflatable balance pillows.
And not only; many other factors contribute to our well-being at work, such as natural light, air quality, noise levels, temperature, etc.
The central idea is that transforming a workspace into a health-friendly environment is a complex process, which must take into account a multitude of factors.
The good news is that there are specialized programs in this regard that can provide complete solutions to this problem.
The workshop "Design of the workplace for health" developed by Joy Corporate specialists is one of them, which I invite you to discover: https://www.joycorporate.ch/de/workshop-store/97-gestaltung-des-arbeitsplatzes-fuer-die-gesundheit

How do you deal with the Drama Triangle in your company?
It is already a known fact that the quality of the work team directly impacts the performance of a business, therefore, when dysfunctions occur in the communication process of the team, the negative effects are reflected on the entire company.
One of the most dangerous such dysfunctions is called The Drama Triangle, described by a pattern of dysfunctional social interactions involving three main actors, usually members of the same working team:
The Prosecutor - strict, firm, and often feels he must win at any cost. He keeps the victim oppressed, a case that eventually can lead to bullying.
The Victim - often feels victimized, powerless, and incompetent. Always blames the prosecutor.
The Rescuer - often intervenes on behalf of the victim by offering short-term fixes, but ends in neglecting his own needs and keeping the victim dependent on him.
As you can see, each of the three actors can cause a specific conflict situation that could affect the efficiency of the work team as a whole so that, in the end, these communication dysfunctions directly impact the company's performance.
The good news is that there are a number of methods by which we can either resolve this conflict situation or prevent it from occurring.
One of these methods is "The Dynamic Empowerment (TED)", a formula proposed by David Emerald Womeldorff in the book "The Power of TED", which involves replacing the three roles in The Drama Triangle with a new set of roles that focuses more towards the desired outcomes, generates greater awareness and more options.
According to TED:
- The Victim becomes the Creator
- The Rescuer becomes the Coach
- The Persecutor becomes the Challenger
To find out more details about this method, but also about other methods that can effectively eliminate this communication dysfunction within your work team, I invite you to discover our dedicated workshop, "The drama triangle - the greatest enemy of team building": https://www.joycorporate.ch/de/workshop-store/348-das-drama-dreieck-der-groesste-feind-des-teambuildings
