Ruzigrass as cover crop improves the potassium partial balance and use by subsequent cotton
Ruzigrass as cover crop improves the potassium partial balance and use by subsequent cotton - Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems In soil, potassium (K) is present as structural K, non-exchangeable K (Kne) and exchangeable K (Ke). Exchangeable K is considered available to plants, but exudates from plant roots and microbes can dissolve Kne and make it available. Some grasses used as cover crops are particularly efficient in rel...
Current Phosphorus and Potassium Fertiliser Application Rates Do Not Limit Tuber Yield and Quality in Potato Production Systems in the Netherlands
Current Phosphorus and Potassium Fertiliser Application Rates Do Not Limit Tuber Yield and Quality in Potato Production Systems in the Netherlands - Potato Research Current ware potato yields in the Netherlands are approximately 70% of their potential. It is hypothesised by several stakeholders within the potato value chain that part of the potato yield gap is caused by a lack of phosphorus (P) and potassium (K) application. In this study, we analysed for 46 fa...
Multisite potassium fertilization effects on sugarcane ratoon yield and economic return in South-Central Brazil
Multisite potassium fertilization effects on sugarcane ratoon yield and economic return in South-Central Brazil - Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems The rate of potassium (K) applied during sugarcane (Saccharum spp.) ratoon cycles has been reduced due to the K-supply from straw recycling, but it may be insufficient to replace the K export by the stalks and maintain soil K at adequate levels. The aim of this study was to evaluate the multisite re...
Controlled-release potassium blended fertilizer mitigates greenhouse gas emissions in paddy fields
Controlled-release potassium blended fertilizer mitigates greenhouse gas emissions in paddy fields - Nutrient Cycling in Agroecosystems Fertilizer management is commonly suggested as an option to mitigate greenhouse gas emissions in rice fields. Controlled-release fertilizers are the best choice among various fertilizers for reducing greenhouse gas emissions in rice fields without impacting crop output. Therefore, in the current stu...
New IPI video clip: Potassium - The Key to Soil Fertility
A lack of plant nutrients at the optimum ratio and sufficient levels means soil fertility declines, crop yields and quality decrease, and farmers’ profits fall too. This is an issue that is all too real for farmers in India, and all around the world.
Every time we harvest a crop, we remove nutrients from the soil, and most crops extract more potassium than any other nutrient. This is why adding potassium is so important for soil.
If the potassium level isn’t sufficiently replenished through fertilization, the soil can become potassium deficient, and crop productivity suffers.
Replenishing the potassium in the soil with potash fertilizer ensures crops get adequate potassium to deliver bountiful, high-quality yields.
Potash application delivers the potassium needed to ensure good crop establishment and is essential for optimum growth all the way to harvest.

Effect of Compost, Blended (NPSZn), and Potassium Chloride Fertilizers on Soil Bulk Density and Moisture Content in Two Soil Textural Groups of Tigray, Northern Ethiopia
Effect of Compost, Blended (NPSZn), and Potassium Chloride Fertilizers on Soil Bulk Density and Moisture Content in Two Soil Textural Groups of Tigray, Northern Ethiopia The growing needs for agricultural production require maintaining and improving soil fertility through fertilization. However, most research to date in Ethiopia particularly in the Tigray regional state has focused on the effects of soil chemical properties and relatively little work has been done o...
