Great article about ‘Doll House Blues’ by Audrey Guttman today in Tribune de Genève, written by Carole Kittner . Opening tonight at 6pm ✨
OPENING TOMORROW. We’re very much looking forward to welcoming you tomorrow to the opening reception of ‘Doll House Blues’ by Audrey Guttman.
DOLL HOUSE BLUES
it’s an empty house with geometric slits
through which the doll has split
inching her way out of a too-tight box
it’s a home made for seeing (not by me, you see)
it’s a sticky feeling— how do I look?
how does it feel — to hold — me? shesgotbeautyshesgotbrains
no more of those doll-like faces and busts and lips and empty eyes — vessels for Your Own Reflection™️
Play House Dress Starve F**k Marry Kill
s**t, I deviated - from the script
and I am always hungry, and I can’t feel a thing
they — the dolls - have remade us in their image
a parliament of plastic lines the hole in our souls
singing the blues - seeking a window
awake, steady, once beloved
watchful.

Dorian Büchi in his studio. We’re thrilled to announce« SELF-PORTRAITS, PORTRAIT AND STILL LIVES » will open on january 23rd on and will featuring a group of paintings by Swiss artist Dorian Büchi. The show explores the pursuit of purpose and balance in our lives, spanning from societal and political implications of rewilding nature to the intimate realms of angst, memories and death.
We’re very much looking forward to welcoming you next week to the opening reception of ‘DOLL HOUSE BLUES’ by Audrey Guttman! The show opens on January 18th at 6pm and will include cyanotype prints, collages, mixed media and sculptures. The solo exhibition marks the third collaboration between the artist and the gallery.
‘With Doll House Blues, Audrey Guttman offers an elaborate body of new work that keenly situates “the doll house” as a figurative site of intimacy and spectacle, ultimately dissecting the mechanisms of beauty and façade. Guttman wields blue cyanotype prints, collage, mixed media and sculpture to challenge our fractured performances of self—positioning “the doll house” as the metaphorical nucleus where these multiplicities converge. The show asks: How do we flee the confining “houses” of self, of performance, of scrutiny? It also considers the prospect of escape, wondering: How might we subvert those boundaries and smash their walls? ‘

´What is an altar? Technically it is a table used for ritual, offerings or worship. In Still Life (Cow Femur), Chloe West follows this definition—and Dutch still-life traditions—by literally rendering altars. Yet these altars are surreal: ornate animal bones perch atop lush, textiled platforms. Although these altars are distinctly be***al, their uncannily religious positionings embody holiness. Notably, West subverts memento mori by situating these bones as emblems of life instead of death ‘

‘The paintings remind us that we can venerate unexpected objects, we can find beauty in flesh and bone, we can carve oases in wastelands, and we can bow at the altar of art. We can have religious experiences without God. Likewise, one’s devotion to artistic practice can rival that of reverence for a higher power—whether that power rests atop an altar, among the soil, or inside the tenacious bristles of a paintbrush’

Born and raised in Wyoming, “At your Altar” is Chloe West first European solo show. The exhibition displays a series of canvases that address, in the face of nature, the transient quality of our decaying fleshes and culture. Some argue that West’s work is at the forefront of a new genre echoing with a renaissance of the Vanitas tradition of the 16th and 17th century. Influenced by biblical imagery and by the Dutch Golden Age, yet resolutely feminine, West explores the residues of Western culture, one that has been imported by European settlers and cowboys, and whose relics have perpetuated in the far West of what has today become the United States of America.

‘West’s high regard for historical painting traditions buoys her devotion to creating works that can transcend time. Mother Cabrini, in which the saint’s hazed remains sport a serene façade, is influenced by West’s visits to New York’s St. Frances Cabrini shrine. With this, West spotlights the sacred intimacy of death, unveiling yet another dichotomy.
As a whole, At Your Altar is a collection of dichotomies. Visceral, pastoral and timeless, the paintings weave the aesthetics of religious iconography and the Western terrain to provoke deep reflection on what it means to live, to die and to worship’ Text by

“Dancing in the Light examines portraiture across a variety of mediums as a way of entering into a more nuanced consideration of contemporary Black life. Rethinking moments of stillness and vulnerability as instances of strength, the exhibition works against flattened and commodified images of a Blackness so often experience within art history and popular visual culture.” Huge thanks to curators and Farida Abu-Bakare.

Chloe West (B. 1993, Wyoming ) is an American artist based in St. Louis, MO. Continually inspired by European art from the Medieval and Renaissance eras, Chloe’s work is in dialogue with several tropes of the era, specifically vanitas painting and depictions of the n**e figure. The artist is continuously engrossed by the history of representation, symbolism, and functions of the gaze as it relates to the human form.
‘Pool' by Chloe West is currently being exhibited at in East Hampton as part of the group show 'Poetics of Falsification'. Chloe's solo show will open on october 4th
Views and detail of our current show ‘Over-simulation’ by Richard Burton. The nine works on display represent a culmination of his time spent in the residency.
It takes immense dedication and passion to create such a stunning body of work, and I am in awe of Richard Burton's ability to channel his creativity into something so profound. Thank you Richard! The show runs until march 10th.

Richard Burton is preoccupied with the notion of work in our contemporary societies. He is presently reading Jean Baudrillard’s Simulacra & Simulation, which seems very relevant to his current paintings. The map, namely the representation we ascribe to a given phenomenon, potentially precedes, if not annihilates, our perception of reality.
Adept of worldbuilding (creation of fictional worlds), Burton continuously questions the border, not to say the fracture that separates the image from its representation. How can one differentiate the real from its copy? What balance is to be found between the signified and the signifier? And more importantly, what remains to be said and to be shown when everything has been exhaustively repeated and replicated?
Extracting oneself from an overly saturated world without sinking into alienation is one of the assumed quests of this gifted artist. The singularity he underlines is nestled within the excessive repetition of the banal. What he obsessively seeks is the vanishing point, the element that strikes beyond dissolution. trxt by photo

View and details of our current show ‘Over-Simulation’ by Richard Burton. The show runs until march 10th. Richard Burton’s work is an enigma. A number Pi which declines to infinity, which turns, ruminates, erases and replays. His canvases are capsules, scenographies frozen in a dimension that is no longer ours. They evoke an abrupt pause, the death of an image which nevertheless continues to accelerate. Where are we? Who are the ghosts that appear and disappear from one painting to the next?
Burton certainly masters his technique. Sensitive to each layer and texture detail, Burton partly acquired his skills by studying the old masters. Today he privileges oil paint with a manifest attraction for magenta and other synthetic colours, which lead us away from earthy tonalities. By listening, following, and interacting with its codes and signs, one can discover keys and clues which in turn enable escape to an elsewhere. text by
