In that moment I Mauricio Herrera had the big honor to led this team with Mandeep Singh for perform the first Spina Bifida in Utero repair and start the Fetal Surgery and Therapy Program at Burjeel Medical City, Nicolaides Fetal Medicine and Therapy Center, in Abu Dhabi, UAE.
Now 1 year after we did more than 18 fetal surgeries and we are proud to offer world-class mother and fetal care and advanced medical solutions to our patients. Here’s to many more years of innovation and excellence!

The multidisciplinary team include Fetal Medicine Surgeon Mauricio Herrera and Mandeep Singh also included Dr. Rajasekhar Cingapagu, specialist, Pediatric Surgery, Dr. Essam Elgamal, consultant, Neurosurgery, Dr. Ramamurthy Baskaran, consultant Anesthesiology & Transplant Anesthesia, Dr. Ahmed Omran, consultant Anesthesia, Dr Pierre Dussan and Dr. Iviano Ossuetta, consultant and director of Neonatology as well as specially trained operation theatre staff.

Today In the Maternal Fetal Medicine Department and in the International Center for Fetal Therapy and Surgery the team started the daily round at 6:30 am. The fetal health and the mother health doesn’t wait and require all our dedication. We review 18 patients , fetuses with congenital anomalies, new patients for fetal surgery and the postoperative period of all our fetal surgeries.

In a groundbreaking advancement in fetal medicine, the International Center for Fetal Surgery and Therapy at the Clinica Colombia Colsanitas Clínica Colsanitas Colsanitas - Colombia University Clinic - Keralty has successfully performed the first-ever in utero repair of severe congenital diaphragmatic hernia (CDH). This new innovative development was led by Dr Mauricio Herrera in collaboration with Dr Mandeep Singh and Dr. Natalia Ordoñez .

This pioneering surgery was conducted at 27 weeks of gestation, marking a significant milestone in the management of this life-threatening condition.
