Getting ready! (Famagusta) Orange stories and the bigger stories behind them 🍊
Join us tomorrow for the Orange Stories! Trust us, you won't want to miss out on this incredible experience! 🌟 See you there!
We are exciting to see you at our new event on this Saturday, 13th of April!
Orange Stories: Εxploring Famagusta’s Past & Collaging its Future
What was Famagusta’s Orange Festival? What were the stories told about the city, its relationship to the world, and its citizens, through the festival representations? What stories does today’s revived interest on the festival reveal? And what are the untold stories of the festival?
The 1.5 hour workshop will invite participants to reflect on the above questions by engaging with photos and other sources, in an interactive and playful manner. Participants will have the opportunity to give their own story of Famagusta through a story collage!
The workshop will be in English but there will be simultaneous translation in Turkish and Greek.

What more beautiful way to start the year than with a walk in Ayios Sozomenos with this beautiful weather and these beautiful people? We discovered the historical, natural, and cultural richness concentrated in this small place, learning from the place and its people. A big thank you to our guide, bahçes editor , and to all the participants for coming out. And, lest we forget, to Ttasis souvlakia for stimulating our post-walk discussions (and satisfying our appetites). If you couldn't make it this time, don't worry — we hope to see you again soon!
📣 This Tuesday, December 19, at 6pm EET (Cyprus time), online!
👉 Taking as a starting point the exhibition FIVE, currently on view at the Cyprus Museum and on display until the 7th of January 2024, the episode will focus on the challenges and capacity of the handling and displaying of human remains in museum environments, and about the contributions of the scientific study of human skeletal remains in Cypriot archaeology.
🎤 The episode features a live discussion with bαhçές editor Dr. Maria K. Georgiou, Ign Dmtreea Demetra Ignatiou, curator-museologist, and Grigoria Ioannou, human bioarchaeologist, followed by a Q&A!
Demetra Ignatiou is a cultural practitioner with a background in Archaeology and Cultural Studies. She works as an independent curator and museologist and she collaborates with institutions and initiatives in Greece and Cyprus for the design and implementation of exhibitions, projects and educational programs.
Grigoria Ioannou is a human bioarcheologist and PhD candidate at the Science and Technology in Archaeology and Culture Research Center (STARC), The Cyprus Institute. Her PhD research focused on health, living conditions, diet and paleopathology of populations of Nea Paphos during the Hellenistic and Roman periods. She is part of several research projects and excavations, and she is collaborating, as human bioarcheologist, with foreign Archaeological Missions in Cyprus.
