Back in Berlin, residents had an excellent long afternoon at the current show at .
The social practice oriented retrospective is extremely interactive and left us feeling happy.
Played ping pong, pretended we were in a band, received FREE t-shirts freshly screen printed, and got haircuts by Elisa.

The fifth location we managed to see while on our tour in Barcelona was the gorgeous Gustavo Gili.
The space held and contextualized important archives by many groups of more marginalized people who live and work in Barcelona.
The history is rich and multilayered- what a diverse and fantastic collection.
One highlight was definitely the work by ⚡️⚡️⚡️(last slide).

PICTURE BERLIN GROUP EXHIBITION

Opening: Friday, 13 September from 18h
with Laura Arena / Sofia Bergmann / Cynthia Bittenfield / Johanna Evans /
Hounyeh Kim / Macy Lee
Portals are transportive - An entrance to new dimensions, worlds and times. With visual explorations layering tangible and digital mediums, opening doors to new spaces or wrinkles in time, the PICTURE BERLIN GROUP EXHIBITION brings together multidisciplinary artists who have opened new portals in their artistic research, whether energetic, material and creative, or journalistic and historic. Exploring how varying practices, color-relationships, geographic mappings, multidimensional compositions, mass media and human stories speak about our times, the past and future, these artists have come together from different corners of the world to present their visual transportations at WIRWIR during Berlin Art Week.

Sheila Hicks, the American born, Paris based artist is unyielding in her ethics—enduring art and meaningful experiences which derive from a conscientious, curious, and ongoing engagement with the material world. Her verve for color, and abstraction are found in her wildly colourful textile based works.

The work of the Canadian artist Kapwani Kiwanga often manifests as installations, sound, video, and performance. She intentionally confuses truth and fiction in order to unsettle hegemonic narratives and create spaces in which marginal discourse can flourish. As a trained anthropologist and social scientist, she occupies the role of a researcher in her projects. We have been following Kapwani’s work for a long time and have been consistently inspired by her notions.

Eva Hesse has always been a point of extreme inspiration for us at PICTURE BERLIN.
A German born, American based artist, retained some of the defining forms of minimalism, modularity, and the use of unconventional materials, she created eccentric work that was repetitive in form and shape and very labor-intensive. Her potion lied in the true impact of her artwork which has been her formal, artistic invention: for example, her inventive uses of material, her contemporary response to the minimalist movement, and her ability to usher in the postmodern and postminimalist art movements.

Eva Hesse is an inspiration.
