"Let's begin by taking a smallish nap or two" Winnie The Pooh 👍 And then coffee...Sunday moods! ... but also really excited for the balancing workshop - 'So you think you can balance?' with renowned Ashtanga yoga teacher Camden. I went to his session on Friday evening and loved his stories of how him and his brother got into yoga when there were no yoga studios or products, just a few books. And living in Texas in the late 60s/70s people thought he was worshiping the devil when they saw him doing Sun A and B in the park! Then his stories from his time practicing in Mysore, India in the 70s ✨. 📷 = 🌴, one of favourite poses. It's mostly not considered 'advanced' but if you're doing it properly there is a lot going on with the feet, legs, core, concentration/the mind. I always find ways to refine it and always find it so grounding 💪

"A little consideration, a little thought for others, makes all the difference" Winnie The Pooh ✨ - a true yogi ✨ It doesn't really matter if you can grab your foot and extend the leg every which way. It matters what you can learn about yourself (physically and mentally) trying to do it, what you can learn as you still your mind and become more aware at a deeper level. AND THEN what you do with that information and that calmer, more aware and compassionate self, off the mat - offering it out in the world and towards others 🙏🏼

Self-practice with the plants 🌵🌿💚
"It is human nature to strive, create, achieve. *How* we move into action and toward change is the challenge". Santosha - contentment with how things are -is one of the Niyamas (which are one of the 8 limbs of yoga) that help bring us happiness and peace. It's so simple to say and can be so hard to do - just to be ok with things as they are, right now, even when things feel chaotic, unfair or really hard. It can be misunderstood to mean that you just have to be passive and not wanting change. But Santosha does mean being unresponsive or striving for more. It just asks us to let go of the expectation that things will be different than they are AND also be willing to work for positive change with non-attachment. Ominous (and making writing at home for seem an ok choice for today).
"Out beyond ideas of wrongdoing and rightdoing, there is a field. I'll meet you there" Rumi ✨✨✨ Read this quote in another book, , and it really resonated. As a human I've definitely failed at this - to have conversations without blame or judgement - on many occasions in different areas of my life. I'll keep trying though, keep practising, using my to build awareness of my thoughts, words, reactions and try to act more intelligently, without blame.

Antione de Saint-Exupéry, The Little Prince 💚 is a practice of cultivating awareness and observation - on all different levels. We become aware of our physical bodies, where we hold strength or flexibility, where we can build both; we become aware of where our minds go with certain poses, fear or blocks that hold us back, we can reflect on how this happens off the mat. As we use the tools of yoga to listen to and question the 'monkey mind' we become aware where the mind takes us, observing patterns and limiting beliefs and we can start to shift them, let them go or let them be. We can then start to observe what goes on at a deeper level, listening more to our intuition rather the mind chatter. (Easier said than done!)
Have spent the day feeling a little sorry for myself, taking a day of much needed rest after a busy week where I was also sick with a head cold 🤧😷 So today I took a day of R 'n R (sleep, lots of time in bed watching Netflix, eating good food) to allow myself to get better asap. Friday feels: I also ❤ Yin | This week has felt a bit 'meh' 🙄, low on energy and prana. But I think that's ok from time to time, especially when you're trying to juggle lots of things in the monkey mind ( and just ). So when I woke up this morning I knew I needed some Yin with my Yang and thank you to the wonderful for giving me just that in lunchtime Yin/Yang at the beautiful . Exactly what I needed. And, to prove I was meant to be at that class I bumped into the lovely also getting her Yin fix. A good day 💚. 📷= , taken at the magical in - check it out if you've not been ✨✨✨

A little Sunday playtime...post running and post sitting tripod headstand play. Working on the split legs which my core loves! 😝 I notice I need to draw my elbows together more...I always enjoy going into an inversion after a run - get the energy flowing in a different direction. Also enjoy this after being sat for a bit in . Gathering some materials for my literature review revisions this morning - lots of juicy stuff on biofuels .
Balance | "Balance in the body is the foundation for balance in life [...] Balance is the state of the present - the here and now. If you balance in the present you are living in Eternity"..."[learning and becoming strong and even in the physical postures] helps one maintain stability in times of difficulty". B.K.S Iyengar, Light on Yoga ✨✨ I love standing balances for all of the above, but sometimes balancing (on and off the mat) does not come so easily to me - my mind is too busy, my body not feeling as grounded or stable. These days I try to observe what's going on in the body and the mind, without judgement, and use that powerful breath to find more focus and evenness. I increasingly try to do this when I don't have a very good PhD writing day - figure out what's going on with the mind, try to rebalance, move, breath, take a break, come back to the present. Find evenness. And on the the mat, I sometimes I just laugh it off - it will happen next time and fortunately balancing in toe hold doesn't make you a better person...what can you learn? That's the practice in both the and

After a good chunk of the day sat in front of the computer for I really needed a backbend or two before dinner to release the spine, re-energise and let go of a little stress and tension 😬. Two bridges and this beauty, Urdhva Dhanurasana, which strengthens the chest and lungs, arms, wrists, legs, buttocks, abs and spine 💪🏼👌🏼
