The most powerful skill a doctor need to exercise over and over, every day, is Integrity. "You See Only What You Know", You Treat Only What You See.
To feel your integrity being challenged, you need the knowledge to recognize you have a choice. The most important attributes of Continuing Education are:
- Coherence of Ideas and
- Support for Practice Implementation and Growth
As doctors are dedicated to improve their patients' quality of life, true continuing education should enable dentists to better care for their patients, grow their practi

The Relationship between Simple Snoring and Sleep Bruxism: A Polysomnographic Study
Freshly published and novel article correlating the simple snoring to phasic bruxism.

mdpi.com Simple snoring is defined as the production of sound in the upper aerodigestive tract during sleep, not accompanied by other pathologies. Sleep bruxism (SB) refers to repetitive phasic, tonic, or mixed masticatory muscle activity during sleep. In this study, we investigated the relationship between....

Function & Aesthetics
New hands-on workshop on one of the most underestimated and yet most important aspects of restorative dentistry: Provisionalization.
It allows for functional testing providing valuable feedback on the occlusal scheme changes (basically eliminating post-insertion porcelain fractures), manages the emotional risk of aesthetic smile design... Most importantly, it helps the patient afford much-needed restorative work through treatment staging while stopping the functional and structural degradation.
Provisionals are in fact the true "Business Card of a Dentist".

.. a lot of wisdom in one simple sentence. If you are like me, most likely you became a dentist because you love helping people, prevent pain and enable people to smile beautifully. Would this be possible with a tooth-centered approach?!

Respiratory sleep disorders in children and role of the paediatric dentist. - PubMed - NCBI
Crisp and Clear:
"Breathing-related sleep disorders in children not only represent a possible cause of craniofacial growth alteration-which is of interest from a dental standpoint-but they may also affect the general health and development of the child. This is especially true for the neurocognitive, behavioural and metabolic aspects, to the extent that obstructive sleep apnoea is nowadays considered a neurobehavioural syndrome."

A truly exceptional curriculum from an exceptional fellow clinician! Warmly recommended.

Short intro - Piper Classification of TMJ Disk Derangements
The clinical joint/muscles examination and its correlation with the occlusal contact timing and distribution - such as T-Scan - are the key in interpreting the physiological vs pathological status of the stomatognathic system. It also makes the difference between restorative dentistry that lasts few months or 20+ years.

Mr.Burn5
The last F1 workshop was a great success and there were few questions if I can organise another F1 workshop before October.
June or July are perfect months to visit Munich: weather is great, biergarten-s are open and I just got a new batch of anterior deprogrammers from USA, specially for the F1 participants.
Possible dates are:
>> June 30th - July 2nd
>> July 14th - 16th
>> July 21st - 23rd
Let me know who is interested!
Mr.Burn5
What a great weekend that was!!!
Two and a half days of discovery, making new friends and simply fun. We didn't do just a Workshop; we opened the door towards a study group where we refer patients to one another, approach cases interdisciplinary and help each other in the advancement of knowledge.

Spear Education
An excellent article from my Spear Ed. colleague, Jeff Lineberry. Europe is not quite where U.S. dental market is...but it will face the same challenges soon. Better be ready and learn.
Vision, Knowledge and working Smart are the only denominators keeping your practice ahead of its time.
As the marketplace for dentistry continues to change, solo dental practices must learn to evolve, too. Are you evolving?

Sleep bruxism associated with obstructive sleep apnea syndrome in children. - PubMed - NCBI
Bruxism can develop to be a stress-relieving "escape valve" and that can occur at very early stages. Hence, the need of a load-bearing occlusion (occlusion designed to cope with specific parafunctional activity) versus of a bruxism-deconditioning occlusion (a new occlusal scheme that leads to an alleviation of parafunction) is sometimes needed. The key in choosing the right occlusal scheme could be found in the patient's history, even from childhood.
ncbi.nlm.nih.gov Cranio. 2015 Oct;33(4):251-5. doi: 10.1080/08869634.2015.1097299. Epub 2015 Dec 29. Research Support, Non-U.S. Gov't
When in doubt if a new occlusal scheme has an impact on the airway patency or viceversa, the SICAT analysis can provide vital information on the relationships: Mandibular Position vs Airway Patency vs TM Joint positioning. Surprisingly, condylar centric relation can be a preferred position in orthostatic posture and seriously obstructive in supine position. Remember the patients with "2 bites"? - one is comfortable while sitting up and a different bite, not necessarily comfortable, while laying flat. This is how you find out why.
