We are thrilled to show you more about this year´s winner of the IAPA Au Pair of the Year Award.
Meet Lia from Ecuador. She now lives with her host family in the US taking care of four fun, energetic boys whom she loves with all her heart and they love their Lia. She is part of the big family and stood by their side during a difficult time last year. This deepened the bond between Lia and her host family. The live a cultural exchange relationship with lots of care, friendship and love for each other that will probably last beyond her stay as an au pair.

🌟 Exciting News from the UK! 🇬🇧

The British is making strides in discussions and negotiations for a reciprocal Youth Mobility Scheme with Switzerland, France, Spain, and Germany! This move aims to address the post-Brexit shortages in hospitality and childcare by allowing Baristas, hospitality staff, and au pairs to return to the UK.
Even more noteworthy, the EU Commission, along with other British departments such as education and farming, is encouraging the UK to open up on a larger scale and extend this opportunity to the youth of all EU countries!
At IAPA, we've been actively advocating for the UK and the EU to broaden the Youth Mobility Scheme, enabling reciprocal exchanges for EU and UK youth. We fully support the statement in the article below:

"The way you solve everything to do with the Brexit unfairness that some young people feel is to say that everyone under a certain age can travel and work for a period of time. This is the one way that you can restore some of the things the younger generation felt were ripped away from them as well as boosting the economy."

We're thrilled that barriers preventing young people from the EU from coming to the UK for cultural and work experiences are finally breaking down. These early positive signs are encouraging! Another article that sheds light on the current childcare crisis in the UK. According to a recent article from Stylist, the cost of childcare is skyrocketing, making it incredibly challenging for parents to return to work. The article states, "Childcare costs are now so high that many families are finding it financially unviable for both parents to work."

The decision of the British government to end the au pair programme a few years ago when BREXIT came into effect, adds to the problematic situation for families and au pairs alike.

The recently presented budget to support families will not be in effect before 2024 which doesn't help the families who are in dire need now. On top of that there are simply not enough childcare places available.

We urge policymakers and stakeholders to take action and address this pressing matter. Affordable and accessible childcare options, including the reinstatement of the au pair programme, are crucial in supporting families and facilitating cultural exchange through au pair arrangements.
