The Youth Engagement Strategy (YES), requested by the Parties to the UNCCD COP15 presents a comprehensive vision with guiding principles and strategic objectives.

This blueprint for action serves as a roadmap for youth as key stakeholders in land stewardship. It envisions a future where young people are not only participants but agents of change, actively shaping the policies that impact their lives and the land they inherit.

Less than 10% of Sub-Saharan African youths own land, even as studies that young people are more likely to engage in restorative land practices. This year's Drought and Desertification Day is going to spark conversations about the interrelationship of land, restoration, and equality.

The 2024 Drought & Desertification Day is highlighting the importance of collective effort in achieving land restoration, and alternately, the benefits of achieving enviromental goals.

Desertification and Drought Day 2024: “United for Land: Our Legacy. Our Future” Bonn, Germany, 21 February 2024 – This year’s Desertification and Drought Day, observed on 17 June, will focus on the future of land stewardship. Every second, an equivalent of four football fields of healthy land becomes degraded – adding up to a total of 100 million hectares every year.
