The name Alder was derived from its meaning of a family of birch trees. These trees have the form of simple conical lines and Patricia Urquiola wanted to make subtle references to the organic shapes.

The Alder Collection designed by world renowned designer Patricia Urquiola is a collection of lounge and side tables designed for indoor as well as outdoor use. Made entirely of natural materials, the biodegradable version of Matek® consists of biodegradable plastic derived from sugarcane as the binder material. Living organisms can decompose it in the same way wood or any other natural material.

The digital challenger bank wants their Copenhagen office to be the leading star for Lunar's concious office design across the Nordics.
The rooftop terrace is set with the Ocean Collection, made out of recycled fishing nets, creating an inviting eating and resting space in the middle of the buzzling Copenhagen City.
Another Mater design, the Earth Stool, made out of coffee waste and recycled plastic, can be found throughout the office building.
The entire interior design of the office building has been orchestrated by architect .

Originally designed in 1955 by Danish designers Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel in wood veneer. Mater has since reimagined the design in new material to tackle various waste streams, and is this spring introducing a version of the popular Ocean Collection made from post-consumer e-waste.
Welcome the Ocean Collection in Burnt Red // made of post-consumer e-waste
Originally designed in 1955 by two of the most renowned Danish designers Nanna and Jørgen Ditzel, the series is characterised by its light structure with repeated slats and metal frames made and tested for outdoor use. The slats are made of 68% post-consumer e-waste and the frame is made of 20% recycled steel tube in a stylish gunmetal finish.
The Collection is furthermore designed for disassembly, meaning that the design allows each component in its purest form to be recycled into new production circles at end-of-life.

Matek® - our circular waste material made by mixing fibre and plastic based waste to a compound that can be press moulded. Waste materials we currently use for our Matek® production are post-consumer e-waste, coffee shell waste, wood waste and industrial plastic waste. We are constantly searching for and testing new waste streams that we can use in our Matek® production.
At the moment we operate with five different Matek® blends - swipe to see the difference in colour and expression. Coffee Waste Dark, Coffee Waste Black, Coffee Waste Light, Wood Waste Grey and Coffee Waste Green.

Introducing Edge Shelf, the circular storage solution, entirely made of Matek®. Matek® is Mater's unique waste material consisting of post-consumer e-waste, mixed with coffee shell waste, a byproduct from the coffee roasting industry.
Designed by Danish design duo , the Edge Shelf is an interpretation of a shelf in its simplest form. SarahLou has created a minimalist shelf consisting of thin Matek® panels that almost float on the wall.
Use it as a solitary shelf or place several shelves alongside or above each other. Available in either Coffee Waste Light or Coffee Waste Dark Matek® finish.

Our journey took off in Copenhagen in 2006, with an idea to create a visionary design brand. By commissioning talented and established designers, Mater create timeless designs, that are manufactured with respect for people, craftsmanship and materials used. Designs that will stand the test of time changing focus from WHAT we launch to WHY we launch it.
