The 5th installment of Break Even Bottle is nearing and this time it is double trouble!‼️ In 2022, released their Discovery Series, a series of Limited Editions highlighting Nikka’s various experiments at each stage of the manufacturing process. 🕵🏻‍♂️
The first releases of that series are the ones presented to you here on Break-Even Bottle day. The normally peated Single malt from Yoichi Distillery, can here be experienced in an unpeated version, and the normally unpeated Single Malt from Miyagikyo distillery was peated. Come by and try both drams against each other.

Masataka Taketsuru, the first Japanese who mastered whisky making in Scotland, valued the climate and natural features of the north. Yoichi, the place chosen by Masataka was close to the sea, surrounded by mountains on three sides and in many ways similar to Highland in Scotland. A cold climate with an appropriate humidity, crisp clean air and fresh water - everything necessary for his ideal whisky was available. The proximity to the sea is one of the distinctive features of Yoichi. The sea breeze gives a briny hint to the whisky during the maturation.
In 1967, in an aim to make his blends more complex, he explored the northern part of Honshu to find another ideal location for his second distillery. He came across a beautiful misty valley surrounded by mountains and at the junction of two pure rivers.

When he first tried the water from one of the rivers, he was so impressed that he immediately decided to build a distillery there.
Miyagikyo’s terroir and distillation method is quite a contrast compared to Yoichi’s. Pot stills are much larger with different shapes such as a bulge neck and an upward lightning arm.

They are heated with indirect steam at a much lower temperature allowing slower distillation. Hence a soft, fruity and floral character of spirit.

A new release from Chichibu Distillery and Japan’s probably now living most influential whisky maker, Ichiro Akuto.
This single malt is composed of 36 different casks of whisky between 6 and 13 years old. All the casks are former red wine casks from France, USA, New Zealand and even Japan.

A bottle retails for 2495,- (if you can find one)
A 2cl dram will set you back 72,- ☺️

On a crisp winter morning, anticipation filled the air as Friday the 10th, known as "G-Day," approached. It marked the annual release of The Glögg, the ruby-red winter elixir that warms hearts and souls. Copenhagen had waited all year for this moment, and the excitement was palpable.

As the clock struck midday, a line of eager locals gathered outside Shoppen, where the aromatic blend of spices, wine, and secret ingredients simmered. With the first sip of Glögg, a wave of delight washed over them, and the chilly winter was instantly transformed into a season of warmth, joy, and togetherness. G-Day had arrived, and with it, a delicious tradition that kindled the spirit of the season.

The third Thursday of every November is the release day of this special 100% Gamay wine from Languedoc. Ever wondered what a really young wine tastes like? This is a super juicy, aromatic wine with very little tannins that is meant to be drunk right away. The grapes in this wine were only harvested 6-8 weeks ago and made into the wine in this bottle.
Séléné is made by Sylvère Trichard according to biodynamic principles, undergoes carbonic maceration and without added sulphites.
Youth is normally wasted on the young, so come drink from the fountain of youth! ☺️🍇🍷
