Uncovering the āsana: Mudrā
In the ancient tradition of yoga, mudrās are symbolic gestures or positions of the hands and fingers that are believed to channel energy flow and influence the flow of prana (life force). The term “mudrā” is derived from the Sanskrit word meaning “seal” or “gesture.”
The ancient belief holds that our five fingers align with the fundamental elements of the universe – water, earth, ether, air, and fire. These elements, each with its unique significance, contribute to the equilibrium of our physical body, mental state, and overall well-being.
If you have attended a yoga class, you may have come across the Añjali Mudrā, connecting the palms together. This mudrā is often used as a greeting or a farewell, but is also said to represent unification, providing a connection between the right and left hemispheres of the brain. 🙏🏼

Classes during the festive season🌲
We still have classes running at Iluma except for 24th-26th of December and 1st of January.
Wishing you all a restful and joyous holiday! 🤍
Some autumnal moments at Iluma 🍂✨
This autumn has been a whirlwind. With the opening of our new studio downstairs, we’ve been meeting more and more new and (familiar) faces in our new home. Seeing every one of you show up on the mat, bringing the magical energy has made opening Iluma 2.0 all the more special.
Thank you for showing up, yourselves and for others.
🧡
Our yoga practice encourages us to dive deeper,
into ourselves.
Each time we step onto our mat,
we come closer to the shore.
With every breath, we anchor in stillness,
each asana, we come close to the shore.
The waves of thoughts gently subside,
as we discover our truths, like pearls,
that were in us all along.
Yoga- a sacred celebration of your body
When we start practicing yoga, we sometimes form of habit of focusing on what our body can’t do, instead of celebrating what it can. We live in a world we are taught to be constantly working on ourselves, our bodies transform into an eternal self-improvement project.
But what about meeting yourself, where you are?
What about accepting and even loving what your body is capable of, right now?
Let your practice be the love letter to your body—a sacred celebration of its strength, resilience, and the unique possibilities that reside within, in the present moment.
“The study of asana is not about mastering posture, it’s about using posture to understand and transform yourself”- B.K.S Iyengar
New to yoga? Here are 5 tips for you:
1. Try our Beginners Class: If you’re completely new to yoga or haven’t been on the mat for a while, our Beginners class is the perfect start. Taught in a non-judgemental and inclusive space, our Vinyasa style class is a perfect start for those who are looking to familiarise themselves with basic foundational āsanas (poses) and prāṇāyāma (breathwork).
2. Embrace Props: If you’re starting out with your practice, props are your secret weapon to a more comfortable and transformative practice. Placing blocks under your hands in downward facing dog can help alleviate the weight on the wrists, or if you have sensitive knees, placing a blanket on the mat can provide some cushioning. Props are there for you to meet your body where it is, so becomes friends with them, they’re here to help you!
3. If in doubt, ask! If you’re new to practicing yoga in a studio, it may be a little intimidating to ask for help. Every body is different, so don’t push yourself into a pose and risk hurting yourself. Embrace your curiosity on this journey, and ask your teacher if something doesn’t feel right.
4. Embrace your own path: As someone new to the practice of yoga, you may find yourself drifting off of your own mat and compare yourself to others. Try and view your yoga practice as a way to cultivate your relationship and understanding of yourself. Everyone is on their own journey. Remember, you’re here for you!
5. Reflect: Taking a few moments after a class to reflect upon how you’re feeling is a way to connect a little deeper into your practice. Some days you may have a lot of thoughts, feelings and emotions, and some days you may feel no different than when you started. Before rushing back into our daily life, try to embrace the inner quiet after śavāsana, check back in with yourself.
Ready to get started? Our Beginners Yoga class is taught on Saturdays at 10:15am.
“Yoga is like music:
the rhythm of the body
the melody of the mind
and the harmony of the soul
create the symphony of life.”

SCHEDULE CHANGE //

We will slowly be opening our new floor to figure out the flow in a couple of weeks by just adding a few classes downstairs. Even lots of our beautiful custom made interior pieces won’t have arrived yet for august. So this is a very, very soft opening; bear with us whilst we work it out! Luckily July is nice and quiet 🧡
AUGUST
In mid august our schedule will change, to accommodate for the new space downstairs with new added classes, some classes upstairs moving downstairs, and some more space between some of the classes to give you more time to flow in and out of the studios.
SEPTEMBER
The house will be in full swing with the last post-summer classes added on, and we will officially open with a big event 🪷
Thank you for being here, loving you,
