Last week NATO issued a statement expressing deep concern over recent malign activities by Russia on Allied territory. These activities include investigations and charges related to hostile state actions in several NATO member countries. Russia's actions, including disinformation, sabotage, violence, cyber and electronic interference, and other hybrid operations, pose a threat to Allied security. NATO stands in solidarity with affected Allies and pledges to address these actions collectively while boosting resilience and coordination. The statement condemns Russia's behaviour and calls on them to uphold international obligations. These actions will not deter the Allies from continuing to support Ukraine.

Today marks the 20th anniversary of Estonia joining NATO 💪 Here are some events that preceded this important event.

🔸At the NATO Prague Summit on November 21-22, 2002, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia, and Slovenia were invited to begin accession negotiations.

🔸From January to March 2003, accession negotiations with NATO took place in Estonia.

🔸On March 26, the same year, NATO member states signed accession protocols with all countries invited in 2002 to join the North Atlantic Treaty.

🔸On March 10, 2004, the Estonian Parliament ratified the North Atlantic Treaty with all its annexes.

🔸On March 11, 2004, NATO Secretary-General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer made his first visit to Estonia.

🔸On March 29, 2004, the accession documents were deposited with the United States government in Washington, making Estonia a full-fledged NATO member.

🔸On April 2, 2004, a flag-raising ceremony for the seven new allies took place in Brussels to mark their accession to NATO.

In March 1949, more than 22,000 individuals were deported from Estonia to Siberia, along with over 90,000 from the Baltic states. March 25 marks 75 years since the forcible deportation, amounting to almost 3% of Estonia's total population. The majority of those deported were women and children under 16.
Across Estonia, ceremonies will be held to commemorate 75 years since the March deportations. In Tallinn, from 6 p.m., individuals can participate in candle lighting on Freedom Square, organised by the Estonian Institute of Human Rights. A total of 1,550 candles will be placed in the square for attendees to light. Additionally, the Estonian Memory Institute will install informative plaques in Estonian, English, Russian, Finnish, and German.

Sweden became today, on the 7th of March, the 32nd country to join NATO 🇸🇪

Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson handed over the final documentation to the U.S. government as the last step in a drawn-out process to secure the backing of all members to join the military alliance.

NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said: “This is a historic day. Sweden will now take its rightful place at NATO’s table, with an equal say in shaping NATO policies and decisions. After over 200 years of non-alignment Sweden now enjoys the protection granted under Article 5, the ultimate guarantee of Allies’ freedom and security. Sweden brings with it capable armed forces and a first-class defence industry. Sweden’s accession makes NATO stronger, Sweden safer and the whole Alliance more secure. Today’s accession demonstrates that NATO’s door remains open and that every nation has the right to choose its own path.”

Sweden’s flag will be raised alongside those of the other 31 Allies in a ceremony at NATO headquarters in Brussels on Monday (11 March 2024), and simultaneously at NATO commands across Europe and North America.

Hungarian Parliament approved Sweden's accession to NATO on Monday. Hungary was the last NATO member that had not ratified the accession agreement with Sweden.
The decision was supported by 188 members of parliament, with six voting against. There are a total of 199 members in the Hungarian parliament.

The approval of the Hungarian Parliament means that Sweden's accession to NATO is essentially decided. To admit new members, the support of all existing NATO members is required.

EATA SG Krista Mulenok had meeting in Germany with Michael Simon, the representative of German Atlantic Association and Dmytro Raiskyi, Advocacy Manager at NGO PR Army, Ukraine.
The Munich Security Conference first side event “Security Policy Round Table “NATO at 75 – Are we ready to defend?” took place at the Prinz-Carl-Palais.

Almost two years after Putin started his brutal war against Ukraine, there is not much hope that
Russian aggression will end anytime soon. The Kremlin seems willing to waste ever more lives,
destroying the livelihoods of civilians and ruining any prospects for a mutually respected order of
peace and stability in Europe. NATO, having maintained peace and security for its members for
75 years, is challenged in ways that contain elements of the Cold War past as well as elements of
the unknown, driven by a strategic landscape that is far more complex and disrupted by techno-
logical innovation. At its landmark 2023 summit in Vilnius, NATO’s leaders have adopted a far-
reaching consensus to step up joint efforts to strengthen the defensive capabilities of the alliance
and its members. So where are we, with NATO at 75 and after the Vilnius summit? What do the
Vilnius agreements mean for the deterrence of Russia? How do experts assess the protection of
NATO’s most vulnerable members along the eastern flank? What is the impact of the northern
enlargement of NATO? How do tactical and technical innovations change the requirements for
our Armed forces? How are societies in large coping with the “new normal” and are they support-
ive of what needs to be invested to deter even more aggression? In short: Are we, is NATO ready
to defend?

Trump says he would 'encourage' Russia to attack Nato allies who do not pay their bills 11/02/2024

Donald Trump expressed his willingness to "encourage" Russia to attack any NATO member that does not fulfill its financial obligations. He also recounted telling a leader that he would not defend a nation behind on its payments and would support aggressors in doing as they please. The White House criticized his remarks as "appalling and unhinged." NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg stated that any insinuation that allies would not defend each other undermines security and puts soldiers from NATO countries at risk.
