This multi-institutional study which was conducted in 3 Egyptian governorates (Cairo, Damietta & Beni-Suef) showed that the vast majority (91%) of cancer patients in Egypt prefer to know their cancer diagnosis.
The results of this study, combined with that of our recent publication in JCO Global Oncology journal (https://ascopubs.org/doi/abs/10.1200/GO.22.00080), provide evidence that supports the necessity of honest disclosure of cancer diagnosis to patients in Egypt.

This research provides an evidence-based answer to a question that has had no answer for a long time: Are we benefiting patients by not telling them their cancer diagnosis in Egypt?
The answer is NO. Patients unaware of their cancer diagnosis have neither less anxiety/depression nor better quality of life.

We, the Palliative Medicine Unit staff, were honored to teach you the Palliative Medicine Course.

In your practical life as doctors, you may face challenges and encounter temptations. Please, do not forget that medicine is a noble mission before being a profession.

Always remember that “the best of people are those who are most beneficial to people”.

On the 4th of June 2022, and for the 1st time in Egypt, the Palliative Medicine Unit of Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the Oncology, Anaesthesia, and Pharmacology Departments, completed the delivery of the 1st undergraduate palliative medicine course for 4th year medical students of Kasr Al-Ainy Faculty of Medicine – Cairo University.
Many thanks to all those who participated in this achievement, and special thanks to 4th-year medical students who attended the course.
