Egypt celebrates Sinai Liberation Day on April 25th, marking the culmination of the great crossing by the Egyptian army in 1973 and its victory over the Israeli occupying forces. This led to the complete withdrawal of the occupying state and the raising of the Egyptian flag over the Sinai Peninsula after its full recovery from the Israeli occupiers. This event was the final scene in a long series of Egyptian-Israeli conflicts, ending with the complete recovery of Egyptian territories following a sweeping victory for Egyptian diplomacy and military strategy on April 25, 1982.

The first steps towards liberation began just a few days after the defeat of 1967, more than six years before the spark of the October War, during which the battlefront witnessed fierce battles that shocked the Israeli military establishment. The confrontation on the battlefront began from September 1968 until October 6, 1973, when the Egyptian forces launched the Crossing War against Israel. They stormed the Suez Canal and the Bar Lev Line, one of the most important outcomes of which was the full recovery of sovereignty over the Suez Canal, the reclamation of parts of the Sinai Peninsula, and the restoration of navigation in the Suez Canal in June 1975.
