| Pacific RISE_CTIP is a five-year project in Fiji, Palau, Papua New Guinea, the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI), and Tonga. The project, a partnership between USAID and The Asia Foundation TAF Pacific Islands, is designed to strengthen national responses to protect, prevent, and prosecute against trafficking in persons.

The National Council for Persons with Disabilities with the support of the Homes of Hope Fiji recently held a 3-day workshop in the northern division, focusing on addressing the issue of trafficking in Persons (TIP). The workshop resulted in several key outcomes:

Firstly, the participants broadened their knowledge on Trafficking in persons. They were able to establish referral pathways, enhancing the coordination and response efforts against human trafficking. Secondly, the workshop identified critical gaps within the justice system that must be addressed to strengthen the overall CTIP framework.

Additionally, the event facilitated valuable networking opportunities, allowing stakeholders to better understand the different Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in place to counter trafficking in persons. This shared understanding will contribute to a more cohesive and effective CTIP approach across the Northern Division.

The construction of this first-ever accessible storage facility is a dream come true for FDPF and its affiliates. The foundation laying ceremony of the storage facility was officiated today by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Women, Children and Social Protection - Fiji, Ms. Eseta Nadakuitavuki, and the Australian Government’s Counselor for Human Development, Ms. Sophie Temby at the NCPD complex in Suva.

The new 185-square-meter facility will include an optimally structured outdoor storage facility, a workshop and an inventory recording space, and a disability-friendly washroom. The storage facility will also have secured lockers in a well-ventilated environment, ensuring everything is protected. The Australian Government through the Fiji Program Support Facility (theFacility) allocated a grant of FJD 596,300 towards this construction.

The storage facility will strengthen the core functions of the OPDs by ensuring that there is space to store, maintain, and access assistive devices, medical consumables, rapid response items, and other vital resources for persons with disabilities.
This accessible storage facility dedicated to the OPDs is a testament to the collective commitment to ensuring that the OPDs can effectively and efficiently deliver services that will positively benefit and improve the lives of persons with disabilities in Fiji.

The OPDs will forever be grateful to the Australian Government for their unwavering commitment to this urgent request by the OPDs and NCPD to build this long-time dream of having an accessible storage facility.

Vinaka vakalevu Australian Government.
