ICF231220: IELTS PREPARATION- While preparing for the IELTS test, it is important to know the time allocations for each test. These times must be factored in while preparing for your IELTS test as time management is also a vital, yet often ignored component of the test.

21/12/2020

ICF211220: Please note that there are no short cuts to upgrading your English Language Skills. You will need to put in hard work and hours of effort to achieve improvements in your band score. If someone tells you that you can buy a certificate with your desired band scores, they are definitely part of a scam. Avoid wasting money on scammers. Remember: there is no substitute for hard work when it comes to IELTS scores.

04/02/2020

ICF 040220: IELTS WRITING MODEL ANSWERS- do not rely too heavily on model essays bearing very high marks on the internet. In most cases, the marks do not represent aptly the quality of the essay, with the marks suggested often being inflated.

20/01/2020

ICF210120: IELTS PREPARATION- give your self ample time to prepare for the IELTS test. The test assesses skills and skills take time to develop. Remain patient.

09/01/2020

ICF090120: IELTS SPEAKING- please remember that the speaking test is NOT an intelligence test. The quality of your responses are not being assessed. However you need to be coherent in your repsonses.

24/12/2019

Wishing all ICF clients, friends and family members a blessed Christmas 2019.

ICF091219:IELTS Listening- use the pauses between sections wisely by preparing for the next section. A quick read through the next set of questions will allow you to be better prepared for the upcoming information and the related questions.

03/12/2019

ICF041219: IELTS Reading- When identifying paragraph titles with the content, DO NOT get confused by the words provided. Remember- synonyms are similar in meaning so they do not necessarily represent the content in the paragraph. The titles must represent the entire content and not isolated words.

02/12/2019

ICF021219: IELTS Writing- try to use a combination of simple, compound and complex sentences when answering Writing 1 & 2 tasks. Avoid restricting yourself to just complex sentences.

28/11/2019

ICF291119: When learning new, more complex vocabulary, avoid learning it in isolation. Learn it in context so that you know precisely how and where to use it. We come across a lot of candidates who do use complex vocabulary but often out of context, which does more harm than good.

03/11/2019

ICF041119: IELTS SPEAKING- candidates often rush to answer questions without listening to the entire question. Listen before you comprehend and then speak so that your answers make sense and are related to the topic. You receive favourable band scores for quality and relevance also. Ask for a clarification if you aren't sure rather than going off on a tangent.

24/10/2019

ICF241019: IELTS WRITING- Please note beforehand that the total time allocated for the writing test is 60 minutes. You are required to complete two tasks within the hour. Plan to complete task 1 in 20 minutes and task 2 in 40 minutes. The best place to perfect this is while you are practicing for your test.

23/10/2019

ICF231019: IELTS READING- Skimming and scanning are two critical skills.you need to learn and more importantly know when and how to use them. Skim the passage, read the question , scan the passage for the answer. Remember that skimming involves strategically reading quickly important passages and scanning involves locating specific information.

22/10/2019

ICF221019: IELTS LISTENING - Please note that incorrectly spelt words will be marked as incorrect. Learn to spell correctly so practice words you have difficulty with. This is especially if you word process your writing often and rely on the computer to correct the spelling for you.

21/10/2019

ICF211019: IELTS SPEAKING- The questions asked are mostly open ended. If in responding you choose to speak on a topic which is dear to you and become emotional as a result, please do not expect any sympathy from the examiner. They will pause to let you compose yourself before continuing with the exam. You are likely to lose marks due to incoherence and lack of resposne. Avoid choosing topics which may result in you losing composure. Remember the choice of topic depends on you.

18/10/2019

ICF181019: IELTS TIMING- Regardless of what test you do, be conscious that there is a time component that needs managing. As part of preparing for the test, learn to manage your time also. That is an equally good skill to have.

17/10/2019

ICF171019: IELTS LISTENING & READING- due to objective nature of answers there may be some adaptation needed for answers from the way they are presented in the script and their expectation as answers. The changes are usually minor e.g. word forms and tenses. The question will determine the tense or word form of the answer.

16/10/2019

ICF161019: IELTS SPEAKING- Please do not be disheartened if you are interrupted by the examiner. It does not necessarily mean you are incorrect. The test is designed as such that if you have reached a certain time mark, you will be asked to stop.

15/10/2019

ICF151019: IELTS LISTENING & READING- be vigilant when transferring answers from the question paper to the answer sheet. There have been several cases of mistakes being made during this process leading to loss of marks. Practice this process also.

14/10/2019

ICF141019: IELTS WRITING 2: There are 5 main essay types - discussion, suggesting solutions, advantages vs disadvantages, providing an opinion & questions based on statements. You need to practice all 5 types so that you are prepared for any essay question type.
