The Inaugural- Gender Security & Peacebuilding course offered the new class that was launched at the OPI 2024, led by one of our renowned Pasifika women doctorate in Gender Development & Healthy Masculinity Dr Mercy Masta, Co-facilitated by Adi Litia Nailatikau. The class set an innovative safe and creative approach to exploring the challenges and opportunities in the role of Gender Security in Peacebuilding.
“I remember during the Bougainville crisis, we did not have any classes to last until midday, if we heard gunshots our classes were over for the day. And I have skipped classes during primary school because of the crisis.
So having the opportunity to return to these learning about PEACEbuilding with full-feeling for me. Even though the crisis was over, it is still raw in our hearts. But now exposed in these courses, I can talk about the bougainville crisis without feeling sad or upset. I am going home soon I carry with me the lessons I have learned here with Transcend Oceania.
I can say, I am equipped with the tools and knowledge to help build positive change in my community.
The principles of conflict resolution dialogue and reconciliation, taking into account the role of gender peace and security that I have learned here will help me make changes for peace in my community.
Today, I know I am a peacebuilder
My journey does not end here. It is just beginning!! Take back everything I have learned here, and contribute to the peacebuilding in my community.
As I leave I carry with me the torch of Peacebuilding from OPI back to Bougainville.” Vinaka Vaka levu

Reflections and Highlights of 24years ago the leaders or people had envisioned the need for both men and women to work side by side and over the years the prevention work has slowly engaged men and boys in addressing Gender based Violence, building on to an interesting session on looking at international laws and treaties likes 1325 Resolution, CEDAW tomorrow
