Exhibition || Kwak Soo Young - L’Éloge du Silence 🍃
A glimpse inside of current exhibition. Come see it before it ends ⭐️
Kwak Soo Young’s painting evokes a vibrant world
of color and organic form. Through his works,
he invites the viewer to plunge into abstract landscapes where nature mingles with the imagination. With his highly distinctive technique, he encourages viewers to play with their eyes to understand the work first with the eyes, then with the memory, frequently triggered by images that are familiar to all such as an abstract landscape or the interior of a cathedral.

Very happy to announce solo exhibition with us ! 🏔️
Chinese philosophical thinking emphasizes values such as loyalty, personal ethics, harmony with nature, acceptance of change, and the search for balance between opposites. Natural landscapes of mountains and rivers have always constituted the central element of Chinese painting. They illustrate a feeling deeply rooted in ancient philosophical thought.
In “谧. River”, the essence of An Xiaotong’s landscapes breaks free from conventional appearance, manifesting a quiet, selflessness. Employing traditional pictorial elements such as water, ink and rice paper, used in a manner analogous to photographic negatives, the artist proposes a multifaceted representation of the landscape, evoking an idealized utopia, a posterior ruin or a fading illusion.
Her works are imbued with an ordinary sense of yearning for nature and a desire for openness, accompanied by a form of benevolence towards oneself. The rivers flow darkly, the hydrographic network and the exposed riverbeds, like a network of blood, seem to be imbued with hope. The artist abandons the subject in favor of feeling, of pure aestheticism.

Desolation by .studio 🥀
For Lê Thúy, human have lost their connection with the earth through their relentless quest to make it their own.
A graduate of the Fine Arts University of Vietnam, the artist sees her work as a witness to the present times, reflecting contemporary events through her prism and her use of traditional Vietnamese painting techniques.
Thus, in her latest exhibition, Lê Thuý expresses through her works the complexities of our existence, of danger, instability and the ceaseless quest for sanctuary. The artist recounts a two-part odyssey, exploring man’s tendency to seek solace in the midst of chaos.

FOCUS | Aung Ko
*
Aung Ko’s painting techniques, in constant evolution, tend to adapt to certain stages of his life. From one work to the next, the style, palette and subject matter can change considerably.
For his latest series, he drew inspiration from the great European masters. Aung Ko indulges in vivid brushstrokes and a color palette reminiscent of Goya’s revolutionary paintings and Freud’s expressive neo-figurative portraits. Our artist seeks to capture glimpses and examples of his everyday life. He embodies a « panoramic camera » capturing moments in time. Interweaving historical representations, surreal colors, imaginary figures, realistic animals, symbols, attributes, objects and emblems from his homeland or his host country, mixing ancient mediums with contemporary processes; from his memories and through a very personal appreciation of the world, Aung Ko proposes an alternative perspective, a purely intimate vision, of contemporary society. His work is rooted in chaos, but can also carry hope.
Moreover, (Here and There) also represents Aung Ko’s enduring bond with his native country. Despite the physical distance, Aung Ko constantly advocates a harmonious future for her homeland.

🍂 OCTOBER EXHIBITION 🍂
A2Z art gallery is happy to present our newest exhibition : « L’ÂME DE LA MATIÈRE »
Matter is defined as one of the central elements that plasticize a work of art. In an era where digital, virtual, and artificial intelligence dominate, the dichotomous distinction between presence and absence, the visible and the invisible, the material and the immaterial, becomes increasingly blurred. A2Z Art Gallery invites you to reconnect with this distinction in the context of the exhibition « The Soul of Matter. »
Matter can be the soul of the work; but can matter exist by itself?
This collective exhibition presents the works of six Korean artists whose main focus revolves around matter: , , .moreau, , & KIM Chun Hwan

FOCUS | Shiori Eda
Shiori Eda (b.1983 - Tokyo, Japan) graduated from the Tokyo Fine Arts School in 2010. Long before she graduated, Shiori received a number of prestigious awards (the Kume Prize in 2005, the Ataka Prize in 2006, the Spring Salon Prize and the Ohashi Prize in 2008). Receiving the Taro Amano Prize in 2010 established her in the Japanese art world, where she was widely acclaimed by the local press.
Highly appreciated by the Japanese, her art always straddles the line between the figurative and the surreal, immersing us in her dreamlike world. Nature reigns supreme in her compositions, straight out of the artist's dreams. These illusory worlds feature female characters, often n**e, in scenes where the powerful natural elements show their full force.
Now living in France, Shiori Eda's works show the confrontation between man and nature, where man's place is rethought in the face of the splendour that the world has to offer, which is both fascinating and frightening.

FOCUS | Louis Le Kim
Louis Le Kim (b. 1990 - Paris, France) has always drawn fantastical spaces using perspective and the application of light, producing a number of graphite drawings illustrating empty and neglected spaces, often attributed to an aesthetic close to Brutalist architecture.
In 2009, Louis Le Kim discovered and explored Paris's underground passages of various kinds (electricity distribution, air conditioning, district heating, telecoms, railways, sewers, quarries, bomb shelters, etc.), eventually settling for a year in a 12,000m2 power station dating from 1929 in the inner suburbs. Over time he built up a set of keys giving access to a number of underground and other spaces.
With these samples, such as photographs, videos and objects, he worked on assembling, drawing and painting in oil on canvas, with the aim of producing pieces intended to enter into the context of research into space.

COMING SOON | JONO TOH - « You Tell Me »
Upcoming exhibition opening soon !
A2Z Art Gallery is honored to announce the solo exhibition of Jono Toh “You Tell Me” from July 14th to 15th 2023.
*
Jono Toh has a background in fashion, where he initially officiated in Australia, New York and Hong Kong. From his personal view of art where the spectator is driven by his own interpretation of the work, the artist creates colorful worlds, giving to each of his pieces a sense of childlike curiosity and wonder.
As a result, Jono Toh’s very own way of communicating in his works create touching stories and giving powerful emotions (joy, energy) to anyone encountering his universe. His technical balance brings to his world a very precise and colourful escapism.
The solo show “You Tell Me” is a vibrant exploration of the relationships formed between shape and colour, investigating the visual and emotional dynamics that reside within these foundational elements. This exhibition is on seen at H Queen’s, 17th floor, 80 Queen’s Road Central in Hong Kong from July 14th to 15th.

FOCUS | Turiya Magadlela
Turiya Magadlela (b. 1978, Johannesburg, South Africa) is based in Johannesburg. Her practice has been shaped by the city, by the people, politics, violence and passions within it, and she translates her experiences into her fabric-based works. Magadlela selects commonly-found fabric, including pantyhose and overalls from prisons, and stretches them over canvas, creating abstract compositions through the manipulation of the textiles.
Since being awarded the FNB Art Prize in 2015, she has participated in numerous solo and group exhibitions both locally and internationally, including Blackness in Abstraction, Pace Gallery (2016) and Blue Black, curated by Glenn Ligon, Pulitzer Arts Foundation (2017).

Come visit our new exhibition !
“HORS SOL” is a group show in collaboration with the curatorial cooperative RADICANTS presenting works from Charles Avery, Shiori Eda, Louis Le Kim, Turiya Magadlela, David Noonan and Bao Vuong from June 22nd to August 26th 2023.
*
In an age of climate anxiety, the art of the early twenty-first century is haunted by new forms of landscape. “HORS SOL”, presented by the Radicants curatorial cooperative, showcases artists whose visual imagination is rooted in landscapes that reflect today’s world, while questioning our relationship with the future.
The artists featured in this exhibition share, to varying degrees, a certain darkness: the feeling of living in a world without an outside (Bao Vuong, Louis Le Kim), leading to tension or a tightening of space (Turiya Magadlela, Shiori Eda), to the construction of an imaginary universe (Charles Avery) or a purely theatrical and ‘acted’ one (David Noonan).

COMING SOON | ASIA SOCIETY / A2Z Art Gallery - « Les Couleurs des Maux »
Upcoming exhibition opening soon !
A2Z Art Gallery and the Asia Society are honored to announce the group exhibition “Les Couleurs des Maux” with Danhôo and Trần Trọng Vũ from June 23rd to August 26th 2023.
*
Thanks to the colours projected and the mists created, Danhôo encourages us to take a look at our ecological conscience: improve our view of nature, give it back its real importance in order to save our future. With this series full of hope, Danhôo suggests that we take action by adapting our habits to the needs of our planet. Through his works, Danhôo only aspires to take our hands for this journey that he hopes will be collective, a journey to save our planet and ourselves.
In his work, Trần Trọng Vũ denounces the excesses of Vietnamese governments, with cynicism and colourful humour. His figurative paintings oscillate between traditional Vietnamese motifs and expressions of a language that is both pictorial and philosophical. These evils or words present on his productions are often in French, illustrating both this colonial past, but also, Trần Trọng Vũ's personal and artistic life today in France.
