NHS Grampian are working to support adults and children/young people with . It is understood that there are potentially over 200 symptoms, everyone’s experience of Long COVID is different. Common symptoms include fatigue, headache, shortness of breath, brain fog, and pain (joint, muscular, chest).

Adult Support and Protection - Self-neglect

Self-neglect can be a complex and challenging issue and includes situations where a person is unable to fulfil their own needs in terms of care, hygiene, health or the environment in which they live.

People who suffer from self-neglect generally decline any offer of support and this often has a significant impact on their overall wellbeing.

There are a number of indicators of self-neglect including:

• Poor personal hygiene
• Malnutrition and/or dehydration
• Hoarding
• Neglecting household maintenance
• Inability or unwillingness to take medication or treat injury/illness

How can you help?

Self-neglect is a particular risk for those living in isolation. Please take time to check on your neighbours, friends and family and offer support where possible.

If you are concerned that a vulnerable adult may be at risk of harm and self-neglect, please don’t ignore it. Contact one of the relevant agencies below who will deal with the matter sensitively:
