Hi folks,
Velocita Coaching Race Team (VCRT) is running the Scottish Veteran Road Race Championships on Saturday July 6th, with separate races for both men and women. From the HQ at Echt, the women’s race starts at 10.30am and the men’s race starts at 2:00pm.
We are looking for volunteers to marshal, drive in the race convoy, and to manage the sign on before the race.
If you can help, please send [email protected] an email stating:
1. What race or races you can help with.
2. What job you would like to volunteer for.
Note: To drive you need to be a British Cycling member, and please send your car reg and British Cycling licence number in your email. You do not need to be a British Cycling member for any other roles, and none of the roles (including driving) require any training or prior experience.
Your help is vital for the running of the event and is much appreciated.
Thanks Chris (organiser) and Tim.

Throw back Thurs today with this iconic 2003 model On-One In**ed 456. A classic steel hard core hard tail. Know what the naming meant...it was the number of inches of fork travel the frame could take - 4, 5 or 6". The ultimate setup was with a Fox TALAS 36 with 3-way travel of 120-140-160mm 😈
Today it was in for fitting to solve rider knee pain. As with all fittings, there was full body assessment first to detect any asymmetries or muscle issues, before dialling in the position.
When is a gravel bike not a gravel bike...when it's a Grevil. A rather nice Pini in for fitting 😁
A special deeper dive today on the latest bike into the studio for fitting, looking at considerations of equipment choice on comfort and biomechanics. This is a custom build Specialized Aethos S-Works put together by the excellent team at Bike Remedy in Stonehaven. They did a superb job sourcing the components and on the quality of the build (check out the perfectly wrapped reverse bar taping!). Being custom, it gave the opportunity to have Fitting input before purchasing components, so the build suited the rider's biomechanical requirements.
Starting with the drivetrain, the new SRAM Force 12sp groupset was selected to utilise the wide gear range. 50/37t rings paired with a 10-33t cassette gave both lower and higher gears than a traditional 52/36t with 11-28t. This allowed for maintaining a higher and more comfortable cadence on steep climbs, whilst still having a tall enough gear for descents and sprint finishes in races. Being 12sp a large number of sequential gears are still retained on the cassette to avoid ‘hunting’ for the perfect one.
Pre-fit assessments detected a wider pelvic width and lateral position of the femoral heads, as further supported by a sit bone measurement of 135mm, resulting in the need for increased foot stance width to maintain lateral knee alignment. This was achieved through widening the cleat position, plus spec'ing Ultegra SPD-SL pedals with the +4mm axles. The saddle was selected as 155mm Spez Romin Evo, the fantastic Mirror version offering supreme comfort for long events, whilst this wider width provides full sit bone support.
The third and final contact point is the bars. The Aethos has the option of the newly released Alpinist one piece bar, which is lovely. However, this can be restrictive if you have specific shoulder width and reach requirements. So this build was spec'ed using the two piece Spez S-Works SL stem and the Roval Rapide bar. This gave full adjustability to the stem length (a fitter’s dream!) as well as the bar angle in the clamp, and importantly the bar width. All were independently sized to suit the rider. The bar was not spec'ed for aero reason's (this is a climber’s bike, although watt savings are welcome), but for the ergonomic comfort that the flat aero section provides. A lovely place to park your hands on the long climbs. The new Force shifters also have much nicer ergonomics to complete the front end.
So a lovely bike with the paint job, but most importantly customised to suit the rider, reducing fatigue and maximising comfort.
Massive congratulations to VC rider Maurice Laing (Perth United CC) and his team, winning a Bronze medal 🥉 at the 2023 UCI Masters Track World Championships in Mens Team Pursuit 65+.
Winning a 'Worlds' medal has been the main 2023 goal, and Maurice and his team 'Around the Clock' delivered a thrilling race in the finals. At the halfway (2000m) point they were nearly 3 sec down on their Nottingham Clarion competition, but rode a storming final 1000m to finish 0.13 secs up. Doesn't get much closer than that!
Joining Maurice in celebrating were his team mates Trevor Bradbury, Kevin Hickman and James Rutherford. Well done lads and thanks for making a proud coach! 😃
