World Book Day 🌍 📚
I do miss a good book! Dental and Medical textbooks are massive, so these days my ebook collection is more extensive, I remember carrying these to the University most days, as the library never had enough for everyone. I feel personally victimised by I’m sure that book nearly broke my neck, plus they’re not cheap when you’re a student
Regardless, I do prefer a real book to an ebook, I think I might take a trip to the medical bookshop. I’m coming for you this weekend.

☕️ Simple changes to your order, like having the sugar free syrup, can significantly reduce your sugar consumption
Christmas drinks sold by some highstreet chains are PACKED with sugar EXCLUSIVE: MailOnline analysis found a festive hot chocolate at Starbucks in the UK has nearly as much sugar as four doughnuts and more calories than four chocolate biscuits.
Do you have a dental problem or a question, or would like to see a dentist before the festive period?
Changes in your diet and lifestyle during the winter months may make you more likely to experience dental problems. Some of these problems may be simple to solve, such as sensitive teeth, perhaps brought on by increased consumption of acid drinks 🍸🍾 🥂 or grinding your teeth, Christmas is meant to be fun, right?!!! Many of these issues can be solved without us needing to pick up a drill!
We have appointments available before Christmas. Don’t suffer during the break, contact us today.

Mouth cancer can develop in most parts of the mouth, including the lips, gums and occasionally the throat.
The most common symptoms of mouth cancer are:
sore mouth ulcers that do not heal within several weeks
unexplained, persistent lumps in the mouth that do not go away
unexplained, persistent lumps in the lymph glands in the neck that do not go away
🦷 It's strongly recommended that you see a GP or dentist if any of the symptoms have lasted longer than 3 weeks. It's particularly important to seek medical advice if you drink or smoke regularly.
Home screening test for oral or throat cancer has 90 per cent accuracy

🔥 How are you staying hydrated during the heatwave?
💦 Consider your fluid intake, aim for at least 2 litres a day.
🍋❌ Avoid adding lemon or fruit to your water as it increases the acidity of your drink and may damage your teeth.
🧊 Ice pops are a popular and refreshing option, but they are usually loaded with sugar. Choose a sugar free ice pop instead (see slide 2 & 3)

🌱 Stevia 50-300 times sweeter than sugar, without causing tooth decay.
👄 Sugar damages our teeth by mixing with bacteria our mouths, which in turn lowers the pH causing an ‘acid attack’
💡Reduce the frequency of these so called acid attacks by using a sugar alternative, such as stevia, instead of adding sugar.
☕️ Even a small amount of sugar, like half a spoonful, will spark an acid attack. Reducing sugar has a whole host of health benefits.
🦷 When it comes to teeth, even a small amount of sugar causes damage.
🩸 Stevia does not increase blood sugar levels and should not contain calories.
❌ Overconsumption of stevia, or other sweeteners, may lead to an upset stomach.
International Women’s Day - celebrating women 💜
The calm before the storm.
Barrington Road is closed outside the practice this week for roadworks 🚧 You may need to allow a little longer for your journey
Are you worried about how much sugar you have been consuming?
⏰After consuming sugar it takes around one hour to neutralise the acid that is created. This means your teeth are under attack during this time.
🍬 Regular or frequent snacking between meals increases your risk of tooth decay. 🍴 Try and reduce snacking and eat 3 main meals a day
☕️ Even half a spoonful of sugar in tea or coffee will cause damage to your teeth. Try not to add sugar or syrup. Try sweetener if you must add something. We would not recommend adding anything except milk (you’ll get used to it in the end 😉)
🪥 Brush you teeth for 2 minutes twice a day and clean between your teeth with interdental brushes and floss/tape daily
🦷 Visit your dentist and hygienist regularly. Catch any problems before while they are smaller.
Make sure you keep your fangs clean or your gums may bleed.
Bleeding gums can be a sign of gum disease, daily use of interdental brushes and tape/floss as well as regular visits with the hygienist can reduce your risk
Do you have pain or a broken tooth? Don’t suffer in silence, we are here for you!
New patient appointments are available from £20 if you join our monthly plan. We have availability today, call 01619281813

To periodontal (gum) disease.
If you are indulging in the chocolate variety this weekend,
🍽 try and have chocolate straight after meals.
