More heavy rain is forecast for tonight and tomorrow, which will likely cause more disruption and flooding.
Please adhere to our advice and DO NOT attempt to drive through flood water. Surface water doesn’t appear very deep, but there can be unseen dips in the road which can catch drivers unaware.
If you are concerned about flooding where you live, sign up for flood alerts here https://www.gov.uk/sign-up-for-flood-warnings

Before you deck the halls, make sure your festive lights are still fit for purpose and the wires aren’t damaged.
Always use an RCD device which can safely cut off power, and remember to switch everything off before going to bed or leaving the property.
How are you getting home after celebrating Christmas with colleagues, friends and family this month?
If you can’t walk home safely, make sure you have a designated driver who won’t drink, or book a taxi - don't take any risks.
Looking for a electrical bargain?
In the UK, some 7,000 house fires are caused by faulty electrical appliances every year. Ensure you're buying from a reputable retailer and your electrical device has a British or European safety mark.
If a deal seems too good to be true, it probably is.

Do you live in the UK or Ireland? Have you been impacted by wildfire or experienced smokey conditions, or do you live or work in an area that is at-risk from wildfire, or where fire is used as a land management tool?
If so, you are invited to participate in a 15-minute online survey focusing on community wildfire resilience.
The survey aims to learn from people who live or work in rural, urban and interface areas in the UK and Ireland. It is the first stage of a research project that will also include in-depth interviews with people on their properties or places of work.
For more details and to participate in the survey, please follow this link https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/firesukie
The survey closes on 20 January 2024.

This week is and we’re celebrating the often-unsung heroes of our Control Room. Every emergency response by DWFRS (and all other Fire and Rescue Services) starts with Fire Control – our highly trained and professional operators not only answer the 999 calls, but also mobilise the resources and oversee the incident to its conclusion. Without them, we wouldn’t be able to keep our communities safe.
Sincerest condolences to Mark's family, friends and colleagues 😔
From CFO Ben Ansell:
It is with great shock and sadness, that I confirm, on behalf of his family, the sudden passing of one of our colleagues. Watch Manager Mark Hillier passed away last night following a road traffic collision near his home in Pewsey.
I know that I speak on behalf of the entire Service when I say that we are devastated by this news. Our thoughts and deepest condolences go out to his family, friends, colleagues, and loved ones at this tough time.
In remembrance and as a mark of respect, our flags are flying at half-mast, across Dorset and Wiltshire.

A shocking 25% of drivers report having had a near miss on a country road, while 40% have been surprised by an unexpected hazard, such as an animal. A third also confess to taking a bend too fast.
Slow down to avoid hazards hidden by bends on country roads

At 9am, staff across our Service will be observing two minutes of silence to remember all those who have lost their lives while working for one of the country's emergency services.

A lot of people don’t realise that wet hay is more likely to lead to spontaneous combustion than dry hay.
If you have recently finished , look at the details on our website to find out how to reduce your risks of a hay fire.

Let’s all stay fire-safe this weekend - , be careful when disposing of ci******es and matches, avoid having bonfires or campfires, and don’t use flares or fireworks near cliffs or heathland.
If you own or rent a beach hut, make sure you keep it fire safe – don’t use disposable BBQs or camp stoves indoors; keep the outside clear of anything that could ignite easily; and make sure any gas supply is turned off when you leave.
