⚽️🧡 Houghton Main Juniors - Orange vs Dronfield 🧡⚽️

We were at home this weekend against Dronfield who kept us at bay until the break! With some nice football played it felt as though it would only be a matter of time until a breakthrough for Houghton.

Sure enough following half time and a change in formation, Houghton were able to capitalise very quickly with 2 strikers and a lot a joy playing down the wings!

Credit to Dronfield however who were set up well and made it difficult for our boys up to this point in the game!

Another good win for Houghton and players tried and tested in other positions throughout the game, documenting huge positives throughout!

Thank you to Dronfield's coaches, players and parents for the game! A lovely team to share the game with!

Leo was awarded POTM for his role in defence as opposed to his usual position as striker! He put on a measured performance, staying relaxed, reading the game excellently and his distribution and choice of pass was spot on!

Billy was awarded POTM for his impact in the second half from the wing, simplifying the game by driving into space along with his crossing, providing numerous asssists resulting in goals! He also managed to get on the scoresheet after a short spell upfront!

A late post following a defeat to a very strong Tickhill side at the weekend! This was Houghtons first defeat since the opening game of the season, and credit to Tickhill who took their opportunities when presented to them! They were fast, strong and it seemed had the greater desire to win!

It wasn't Houghtons greatest performance and it seemed that the compromising weather and cold affected individuals on the day! That being said we never stopped working hard throughout the game and were unfortunate with numerous injuries, but Tickhill had too much for us on the day!

Thank you to Tickhill, a fantastic team and coaching staff who were complimentary and also showed concern for our injured players!

Your POTM were Samuel and Miles. Samuel was awarded player of the match for raising his hand to go in the net following an unfortunate injury to our goalkeeper Reuben! His performance was exemplary and attitude commendable!

Miles was also awarded POTM for a positive performance in defence including multiple interceptions, tackles, driving forward with the ball and simplifying the game! He had a positive attitude until the end!

⚽️🧡 Houghton Main Juniors - Orange vs Rawmarsh U9 Greens 2023/24 🧡⚽️

After what proved to be a slightly unsettled start to the day, we managed to get the game underway!

A meeting between two teams which we knew would be a competitive affair and one which was certainly a game of two halves!

Houghton started the game well and were able to capitalise on quick breaks and high pressing, enabling the boys to take the lead going into the half way mark! Some fantastic football was played at times by both teams and chances at both ends of the field!

It would be fair to say that momentum shifted more in Rawmarsh's favour in the second half, putting Houghton under pressure, managing to draw the scores level! This being said Houghton certainly had a number of chances but were unable to convert!

Nevertheless a game played in great spirits throughout and a fair result all-round!

What a special day all round for our boys at Houghton Main Juniors - Orange having won all of our games in the group stage of the cup competition to then be crowned CHAMPIONS after a win away at Bolsover today!

We could not be more proud of each and every one of them who dug deep to get the result! A very questionable surface was a test at times but the boys stuck together and ground out a great result against a competitive side!

Our final game in the group stage of the cup draw was a visit to the Memorial ground against Pen*stone Whites! It would be fair to say Houghton had a below par first half however their was much improvement in the second, managing to come away with a win after what proved to be a physically tough battle on the day!

Sunday saw Worksop Juniors travel to Middlecliffe for our first game in the cup! Houghton completely dominated play with plenty of missed chances however made sure they got the victory at the end of 50 minutes! Houghton played some lovely football throughout and Worksop never stopped battling until the final whistle!

Today we welcomed Beighton Magpies to Middlecliffe Lane in what we knew would be a tough game for Houghton, with plenty of families in attendance to watch the spectacle!

We were also delighted to welcome back Theo, however this time he would play for Beighton against our boys!

2 very competitive teams were on display throughout, with neither team able to break away from the other! The football played was end to end and either team could have pinched the win, however a fair result in the end saw a draw between the two teams!
