Have you been induced at either Basingstoke or Wi******er Hospital in the last 12 months? We would love to hear from you! (Hampshire Hospitals Maternity - Andover, Basingstoke & Wi******er)
We would like to hear feedback from women who have had an induction, specifically around:

1. Communication before the induction about the timing and the plan.

2. What helped (or would have helped) to prepare you? Written information? Chatting with a midwife? Online information and links?

3. How about the induction itself - what feedback can you give on how things went to help improve the process for other women? What went well? What would have made things go better?

Hi everyone,
The BFCs at NCT Basingstoke are putting together a Lottery grant application to get continued funding for our Friday NCT breastfeeding support.

Understandably, the grant givers at the Lottery fund like to know why the families in Basingstoke value the breastfeeding support they got from an NCT trained BFC. What it means to them and why they would like it to continue in the future.

How did the support that you got from one of our team benefit you and your baby (or babies)? Did the support make you more reslient, did it help you and your baby thrive, did you feel welcomed and find the support inclusive? Did your health or your baby's improve following your visit? Tell us what contiuned support from the Lottery fund allowing us to continue our service - means to you and to our community in Basingstoke.

All the breastfeeding support that you can access from an NCT trained BFC in Basingstoke is funded by grants and donations.

Andover Birth Centre is open!

Our Freestanding Midwife Led Birth Centre is now open within Andover Memorial Hospital!

Birthing in a midwifery led unit is a great option for 'low risk' women birthing their babies.
According to the birthplace study, families birthing in a midwifery led unit had significantly less interventions in labour compared to those wanting to birth in an obstetric led unit. It has also showed greater birth satisfaction.

Our birth centre is not staffed 24/7 and therefore if you are wanting to birth here, you will need to be booked via your community midwife and a member of the Blossom and Bloom team will be in contact to arrange a birth chat and a tour of the unit from 36 weeks. Once you are in labour, you simply call the triage team and the birth centre will then open for you.

A busy week behind the scenes but the van is packed and we are looking forward to popping up to play with Basingstoke NCT for their Bumps into Babies session this Friday morning at Brookvale Village Hall. This session is bookable direct with them and we are looking forward to bringing along our village and a baby area for the littlest villagers too. We’ve been made aware of a potential scam that names us as partners with ‘Chicco Mommy Box’ and asks for money for delivery for a ‘free’ box.

We have not partnered with Chicco in this instance and they have previously identified fraudulent activity targeting people who have looked at their products. Therefore this may be a scam and we recommend you don’t give out any personal information, including bank or contact details.

Thinking a bit more about our FREE peer support course for Basingstoke mums coming up after Easter. Interested drop us a message. Please share.
It is worth pointing out that peer support courses aren't only about women with little babies - courses that have been delivered by local BFCs in the past in Basingstoke have included mums with kids at primary school, at secondary school and even at least one grandmother! We need people doing the course to be able to commit to volunteering with NCT in Basingstoke - so, could this be you?

More time on your hands, more available for volunteering? Contemplating training as a breastfeeding counsellor perhaps (NCT training now costs in the region of £2000 for the breastfeeding counsellor module without antenatal class facilitation as it has come back in part to an in house set up - whereas a few years ago it was a full year of University fees making it unaffordable), might this be a first step? Considering a career change or enhancement of your skills in your current career in maternity or family services? Our peer supporters in the past have gone on to train as breastfeeding counsellors, midwives, maternity support workers, family support workers, doulas... might this be the first step for you while volunteering at our Basingstoke NCT Bumps and Babes on a Friday?

ONLINE. One 2 hour session a week for ten weeks. The course will be online but the mums will be local and we will be encouraging local meet ups at our NCT Friday Bumps and Babes (and in other days/ locations that might suit!) You are encouraged to volunteer at the weekly Bumps and Babes and to offer information and support to other parents and of course it will increase your knowledge for your own future feeding journey and for friends and family around you too.
