A common misconception we hear about hospices, is that people think hospice care is only for the last days of life. When actually hospices can provide support to patients and their families for months. This support can range from pain management to physiotherapy, along with using our Living Well service.
Hospice care is about making every moment count, offering comprehensive support to manage symptoms and provide emotional and spiritual care. We cannot add days to life but we can add life to days.

Amidst the ongoing hospice crisis, it's important now more than ever to understand the vital role hospices play in our communities.
Hospices provide essential care and support during life's most challenging moments, but we're facing unprecedented challenges.
Learn more about the importance of the Hospice, as told by our Palliative Care Doctor, Dr. Rachel McDonald: https://www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk/story/the-importance-of-the-hospice/
Hospices are in crisis. It may come as a surprise, but only 16% of our funding comes from the government. End-of-life care is an essential service, not a luxury, yet it is not funded like other care services. As a charity, we depend on the kindness of supporters like you to help us raise the additional £15,000 a day needed to keep our services running.
St. Michael's Hospice is facing a stark reality: without your support, we may not be here for everyone who needs us. We urgently need your help to continue providing vital support, pain management, and end-of-life care to patients and families in Basingstoke and North Hampshire.
Please donate to our Urgent Care Appeal and help us close the funding gap: https://www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk/urgent-care-appeal-donation/
Together, we can continue to be there when people need us most.
We’re on the lookout for amazing individuals to lend a helping hand at our retail shops.

You may have seen from our post yesterday, that Hospices across the UK are in crisis and St. Michael's Hospice is no exception. Our costs this year are expected to be almost £600,000 more than our income.
We need your help, whether large or small, every gift and donation makes such a positive impact to our patients, their family and our staff.
Another way to give is to choose a gift from our Amazon Wishlist. With help from medical professionals at the Hospice, we've created an Amazon Wishlist filled with essential items needed to care for patients and families. 🎁

As the new government gets to work, hospices are in crisis. Costs are rising, funding has stalled, demand for care is growing. Now some hospices are being forced to cut services.
Due to external factors beyond our control St. Michael's Hospice expect our costs this year to be almost £600,000 more than our income.
This can't continue. We’re supporting Hospice UK's campaign to make sure MPs understand the scale of the challenge facing UK hospices.

Across the UK, hospices are facing critical funding challenges that are impacting their ability to provide care. Our hospice is no different. Today, our CEO, Iain Cameron, joined Radio 4 presenter Jonny Dymond on the World at One show to discuss these issues and their impact on our Hospice.
Shockingly, only 16% of our funding comes from the government. End-of-life care is an essential service, not a luxury, yet it’s not funded like other care services.
The reality is stark: without our local community's support, St. Michael’s Hospice may not be here for everyone who needs us.
Our funds are stretched due to the current cost of living crisis, high fuel and energy costs, and high inflation rates, combined with over 15 years of below inflation increases to our government NHS funding. These external factors beyond our control mean we expect our costs this year to be almost £600,000 more than our income. Please help us continue providing this vital care: https://www.stmichaelshospice.org.uk/urgent-care-appeal-donation/
In June, our dedicated team cared for 25 people in our IPU and 210 people with face-to-face visits to their homes by our Hospice at Home teams. We also provided 43 counselling sessions to support those experiencing bereavement. Every statistic showcases our unwavering commitment to providing care and support to those in their most vulnerable moments.
