A new exhibition by Corsham Artists is now on display in the Central Corridor (B25).
Corsham is fortunate in having a wealth of artistic talent at its disposal. Corsham Town Council has set Community Wellbeing as one of its objectives for the 2022-2026 Strategic Plan with a target to ‘continue to enhance the Arts, events, and culture in Corsham through our own projects and working with, and supporting, others’.
As a result, the Community Services - Arts contact, Sarah Leigh, instigated the possibility of an exhibition at RUH in approaching Art at the Heart, with the support and encouragement of the community Services - Health and Wellbeing Officer, Vickie Fauset. Both are delighted that a group of professional, semi-professional, and amateur Corsham-based artists, of all ages and using many different creative processes, came together in response to the invitation to exhibit at Royal United Hospital, Bath.
All artwork is available for sale with one third paid the the RUH.
A new exhibition, ‘A Healing Environment: Earth, Sea and Sky’ is now on display in the Central Corridor (B4 - B7).
Somerset landscape artists Lucy Hawkins, Georgina King and Jill Davies are exhibiting at the RUH and contribute to a healing, creative environment.
They draw inspiration from the Jurassic coastline, southwest landmarks, moorland and ancient woodland. Various terrains are explored through expressive painting, illustrative printmaking, use of earth pigments and mixed media. These responses share the beauty and pleasure of being in nature to interesting juxtapositions and connections with the land.
All artwork is available for sale with one third paid to the RUH.
‘The Wild Ones’ by The Idle Biro is now on display in the Central Corridor (B8).
This remarkable exhibition of large scale wild animal portraits has been created using biro and charcoal.
Pahrnia (The Idle Biro) has been nurturing her passion for over fifteen years, crafting her talent into a skill she carries with her across the globe - from backpacking in Kenya to collaboration with Longleat Safari Park. The display of this project now culminates in her home city of Bath.
“It’s a skill I’m grateful to possess, one that allows me to connect with people on a profound level” she reflects, and adds “For me, drawing is akin to meditation or yoga. It’s a moment of complete presence, where my mind is wholly engaged in the creative process”.
All originals and prints are available for sale with one third paid to the RUH.

We have 83 art locations, with over 100 pieces in total. Over the next few days we will be posting pictures and stories from all of the commissioned artists in the centre...
The centre provides a nurturing and therapeutic environment, making use of art and design, natural light, open spaces and noise reduction technology to reduce stress and anxiety and more rooms to safely hold private conversations.
RUHX and other generous donors, including Deirdre Dyson, have funded the art in the Dyson Cancer Centre.

A fascinating new exhibition celebrates contemporary landscape photography and examines how the genre has evolved to become a far more diverse and inclusive field of creativity.

The exhibition encompasses a range of subjects and artistic approaches and also explores landscape photography’s ability to improve physical health and mental wellbeing.

Our Musician in Residence Frankie was honoured to sing in the Dyson Centre for Neonatal Care (NICU) this week trialling a new musical initiative at RUH Bath , soft music being sung on the ward to support the wellbeing of families and staff. We’ve already had some lovely feedback and hope it can develop into a regular session, supporting families to relax and bond alongside the live music.
Thank you to NEW. Friends of the RUH for funding Soundbite and allowing these fantastic initiatives to happen, lifting spirits and improving wellbeing around the hospital for patients, staff and visitors.

Our Musician in Residence Frankie is off to do some CPD training this morning; Exploring Play, Improvisation, and Interactions in Sound for working with patients with complex additional needs. Lots of patients she works with, particularly on the Children’s ward have complex additional needs, and so this will expand her knowledge and guide her practice to have meaningful musical interactions with the patients she meets.
Our Soundbite music programme including Frankie’s role is kindly supported by NEW. Friends of the RUH and RUHX Charity
A new install my popular ceramicist, Sally Gardiner is now on display in the Central Corridor (B8).
A new exhibition, 'The Diversity of Landscape Photography' by Susan Brown, Valda Bailey, Joe Cornish, Andy Farrer, Paul Mitchell and Vanda Ralevska is now on display in the Central Corridor (B4 - B8).
Quietly and steadily, landscape photography has metamorphosed in the last fifty years. From a medium dominated by a few black and white darkroom experts, and characterised by dark and critical tones (literally and metaphorically) it has blossomed to become a far more diverse and inclusive field of creativity.
Nor is it the preserve of middle-aged and elderly men (although some remain!), as the Diversity of Landscape photography shows. Women now lead the genre’s artistic revolution.
Landscape photography is also increasingly known as an instrument of healing, both for practitioner and viewer. Landscape photographers benefit from regular exposure to the outdoors, to clean air, sunlight, and vigorous exercise. But most of all the therapeutic benefit comes in searching for beauty, and bearing witness to the endless cycles of life and seasonal change. This helps the photographer connect with nature.
For the viewer, be they in a museum, or gallery, or cafe, or hospital, a beautiful landscape photograph can provide a moment of stillness, calm, tranquility. And the photographers own meditation on their subject matter is shared with the viewer, albeit in a very different way. Landscape photography is often overshadowed in the competitive world of photographic genres where wars, news, personalities and high octane human or wildlife subjects scream for attention. But a good landscape image which successfully explores nature and its ever-changing beauty is more likely to stand the test of time, and provide pleasure and insight for many years.

A new install from Bath City Football Club is now on display in the Central Corridor (B25).
The My City My Shirt project is a celebration of the diversity and inclusivity that’s at the heart of the club’s fanbase and ethos.
Created in conjunction with anti-discrimination organisations Fans for Diversity and Kick it Out, the project’s aim is to promote loudly, widely and permanently the message of inclusivity and of cohesive local identity reaching out from Twerton Park and across the city.
Around 30 portraits of subjects representing the diversity of City supporters have been created by renowned local photographer Nick Smith. The subjects are all wearing Bath City FC football shirts and are pictured in front of iconic or significant Bath Locations.
