BSU community comes together for the University’s first Heritage Open Days Visitors will have the chance to explore the past and present at Newton Park campus this weekend

This week Higher Education Policy Institute published the report, Down with the World-Class University: How our business models damage universal higher education (HEPI Debate Paper 38) which calls for a fundamental re-evaluation of the way universities are run in the UK. It argues good growth, and an era of universal higher education, can be achieved if we ditch the ‘world-class university’ model in favour of group and collaborative approaches.

In the report, Bath Spa University and New City College are mentioned as an example of an innovative partnership between higher and further education.

On the publication of the paper, Principal and CEO of New City College, Gerry McDonald and Vice-Chancellor of Bath Spa University, Sue Rigby said:

"We are proud that our institutions have been recognised within this Higher Education Policy Institute’s debate paper as an innovative example of partnership working between higher and further education. Together, we are working to provide a seamless pathway from entry level through to level 6 and beyond with starting points that meet the needs of every student through an exciting collaborative framework that also looks to meet the emerging demands of students and employers."

Members of the public will be able to explore work from our 2024 Porthleven Prize winners in an exhibition opening on 11 August. 💙

The exhibition, called Tides That Bind, will feature work by seven BSU students and graduates studying a range of courses from Creative Writing to Photography, opening at Netloft in Porthleven, Cornwall, before making its way to BSU’s Michael Pennie Gallery in October! Say hello to Tiny, Newton Park's latest addition to the hedgehog family! 👋 🦔

This baby hog was found on the side of the road by our incredible Grounds Team and taken to a local Hedgehog Hero where she was nursed back to health before being released into Newton Park. 💙

On 15 June, two friends took part in a 10,000ft charity skydive in memory of BSU student, Maddie North and her sister, Libby.

Lily Breese and her close friend Mya Hamilton have raised over £3k for Dorset and Somerset Air Ambulance, a charity nominated by Maddie and Libby’s parents.

Last week, we were to hold our first ever Quiet Graduation for students who may find attending a traditional ceremony overwhelming. 💙

The small ceremony was designed for graduates and their families who may need additional support and the Graduation team worked closely with our Student Wellbeing Services to ensure the ceremony met the needs of each individual attending.
