Rob Waterson - Traditional Swedish Massage, Bath

Independent mobile (mostly...) male massage therapist (that's 'masseur' in old money) "Tutum in manibus meis." Essential Oils and Thai balms.

I qualified in the early to mid ‘90s and have been massaging on and off since. Trained in both classic Swedish Massage and Aromatherapy. I endeavor to exchange regularly with fellow therapists to maintain and develop my skill sets. My style can be either relaxing or invigorating, deep or not-so-deep, structured or free-form. I blend various traditional moves such as effleurage, petrissage, tapotem

Hello folks, I trust you are keeping well and your massaging is going great guns. I've been off for the past 9 months, but that's 1st Episode psychosis. Fortunately my recovery is progressing, my meds are down to one tablet a day and I'm having CBT as well. Back working part time with main job. I expect to be out of action for a year but I'm 90% back in myself and I'm stil keeping my fingers on the massage pulse. Keep up your good work. X

Hi folks,

I am unable to do the Bath Half this year, unfortunately. I wanted 3 MTs in place, although 2 should be okay hopefully Emma should be able to source a replacement for me from the uni.

04/10/2023

If anyone on here is running in Bath Half next Sunday 15th for the Bath Rugby Foundation kindly visit my table and I'll bring your legs back to life.

20/09/2023

On a sabbatical at the moment but (if all goes well) will be helping out again with the Bath Rugby Foundation Team with Bath Half Marathon 2023 on Sunday 15th October.

30 runners will be taking part. At a minimum a team of 3 would be ideal, so another 2 MTs required.

Strong And Beautiful Massage Therapy and Front Row Sports Massage & Soft Tissue Therapy were in the team last year, and would be great to work with again...they have first refusal as it were.

However, they do have to travel in from afar...so...Anyone in the local massage community up for the challenge? An intense but good time and stretching your abilities does you good.

Heavy handed...? Who, Moi...??
I beg to differ...You may or may not experience a little soreness granted but hey.... you still have a pulse. You'll live.
NEXT...!!!

Hmmm....another Phantom enquiry. It happens....a lot. Hey ho.

27/07/2023

Parallels are found in surprising places. Think of the body as a ship. It has vital systems to make it work. Break it down...
A ship has a keel (spine) and skeleton... frames, divided into Watertight zones. It has a skin. It has circulation...ie moving working fluids from where stored to point of use, cleaned, filtered and back around. Kms of pipes, ringmains and hoses. Hydraulics which need fluid and pumps, HPA for pneumatics, Fresh Water (hot and cold) made by Reverse Osmosis and minerally dosed from Sea Water, Sea Water, Chilled Water, Technical (distilled) water for HVAC and cooling, Grey Water (lymphatic) Black Water (Renal) Power and Propulsion (Digestive and energy conversion), Air intakes, Exhaust (Respiration) Air filtration (imnunity and to prevent ingestion of foreign objects), Protection, Fire Fighting and Damage Control (antibodies) Environmental Control and HVAC (Homeostasis) Electrical and Control. Fibreoptics (Brain and CNS)....anti fouling, cathodic protection, degausing, information gathering...I could go on but you get the gyst....but without a crew is going nowhere.

26/07/2023

And inside...with a more precise sanding than with the power tool I've also been wrestling with today. That said, I still went with the beast to chew through the worst layers of paint on the main underside panel.

If you can control this and still use with gentle enough force (reign this in to be more on point..it has quite a kick..) you can develop your sensitivity for Deep Work. Wood grain or striated muscle fibres...not that far apart as a comparison. Grain, flow and direction...fibres that are separate, yet interwoven.

As an interjection, genetically, we are cousins to the trees...I tried talking to them, but they didn't listen to meee...🎵🎶🎙 Must be on a different frequency...

Anyway.....

Remember, this was a living organism at one point...a tree also takes a long time to mature...and there is no 'timeline' on maturing your craft. Trees have branches...and with branches come knots...but they have roots and a trunk.

Trust your training, trust your gut and whatever "grounding' techniques, rituals that work. You'll get to that point that if it 'feels right'...it IS right.

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp - Wikipedia 12/07/2023

In a way, Massage is like religion. There are 4500 different believe systems/deities/religions etc...but they pretty much boil down to the 'Golden Rules' common to all....(essentially try not to be a.....)

So, what's the parallel? Human Anatomy and Physiology hasn't altered that much...apart from loosing the tail and retaining an Appendix...breaks down cellulose in herbivores...if ours still worked then sweetcorn would be fully absorbed. A&P is fairly constant and just carrys on.

Our knowledge and understanding however has grown exponentially.

Pre Renaissance, the best medical text books were from ancient Greece written by Galen. When dissections were starting to be performed and drawn up by Leo and others https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Anatomy_Lesson_of_Dr._Nicolaes_Tulp the RCC was in uproar..but once the genie is out...people realised this was all really useful stuff and a major step up. Text books written and rewritten with advancement. Illustuated with the most exquisite art. Gray's Anatomy is a classic and still holds up.

Oh....Shout out and thank you to Burke and Hare for your (albeit unorthodox) services to the advancement of Medical Science. Joseph Mengelie..not so much. I'll acknowledge you pioneered many techniques which are now commpnplace...but not wrt your approach or methods.

Then along came photography and the serendipitous discovery of X Rays.

Fast forward to today and we can MRI and 3D map the entire body, enabling surgeons to construct simulations of conditions that rarely present, rehearse and refine procedures before going in...and there is still more to learn.

I recommend watching the entire Surgeons - Edge of Life series on BBC IPlayer.

Anyway, what's this leading to...? Explore any modality or avenue that draws you learning and expanding knowledge in whatever way works but don't ignore nor neglect the basics. Keep those core moves in your routine. Your style evolves over time but keep your foundation strong. X

The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp - Wikipedia The Anatomy Lesson of Dr. Nicolaes Tulp is a 1632 oil painting on canvas by Rembrandt housed in the Mauritshuis museum in The Hague, the Netherlands. It was originally created to be displayed by the Surgeons Guild in their meeting room.[1] The painting is regarded as one of Rembrandt's early masterp...

Just heard from the lovely Emma, who is the ticket lady at Oldfield Park that GWR are closing ticket offices...and Oldfield Park (OLF) is on their list. News of this emerged yesterday and Public Consultation started yesterday and closes 26th July. From past experience Public Consultation means minds are already made up and the decisions have already been taken.

Have your say and please show support for our station and stations like ours. The ticket machine is unreliable at best..so much better to talk to a human being.
