We are now on annual leave, and will return to work on 1st July. As usual, Eilidh will continue to pick up emails and whats app messages, and deal with as many enquiries as possible whilst we are away, but if you've not had a response, please do get back in touch on 1/7. The best way to contact us whilst we are away is by email at [email protected]
For now, please do NOT message us direct from our google page as when we set up the new desktop, for some reason the backup account has changed to another email address that I cannot access to reply to! Please send any emails direct to [email protected], and not via our google page. Thank you
We have a new desktop, so slowly managing to set things back up, and Colin reckons he will also be able to fix the old one, so we're pretty much up and running. If you are expecting to hear from me about something or have emailed and not had a response PLEASE get back in touch, as none of the sets ups have transferred across, so I'm having to get to grips with new set ups on every account we run. Until I manage to create some order out of it, there may be minor blips in communication! Sorry folks!
Having a few issues in the office as our desktop died yesterday and the hard drives aren't for playing with the new one we purchased! I currently have limited access to customer files and invoicing, but fortunately still have the diary. I will be able to deal with most things as normal, but for those waiting for invoices, please bear with us until we find a solution
We are now on annual leave, and will return to work on 2nd May. If you have any queries in the meantime, you can still email us on [email protected], or text Eilidh on 07586 270 431, we will be picking up messages from these sources as usual
Always trying out new kit to improve our effectiveness. This wee gem under test is exceeding our expectations. Anything that saves lots of dust has to be good 😉
That's another rewire finally finished. I really enjoy the last day, pulling everything together, Mac relaying the carpets, Colin finishing the fuseboard and testing everything, filling the last of the wall chases and me doing a general all round tidy up, clean, dust, put shelves back etc, and shuttling everything back into the van, sorting recyclables and disposing of everything to the correct places
So I'm no stranger to graft, but Colin will need to finish this one up. Some considerate soul decided to tile this, then someone plastered over the top, and then stick woodchip on with superglue I think. Once you manage to get through that, the wall behind is a type of flint conglomerate, might as well try to cut through a diamond. Whist squeezed into a gap under a kitchen worktop. Even with a heavy hammer, half the time the scutch is just bouncing off, and a bit of metal actually came off my scutch but the wall stayed intact. Added to the misery is that the entire floor is concrete, so I need extra channels. I'm feeling a bit hacked off, and my wee arms are like jelly! The joys of a rewire ;)
Just to prove girls can wraggle too ;) . All hands on deck when there's a rewire ( posted by Eilidh btw )
Out with the old, and in with the new. Removal of an old untidy system, which has been replaced with a new, full RCBO board with surge protection, with a few blank spaces to 'grow into' for future projects.
Things should start to get a bit more back to 'normal' this week. Dad is out of hospital and safely delivered back to the highlands, AND our landline is back up and running (although for now calls are still being diverted to my mobile) The weather may potentially still continue to cause us some issues, so those of you have outside work booked, please be aware that you may experience some delays or movements in booked work! Unless you hear otherwise, just presume things are going to proceed as planned. We have several jobs to catch back up on, and we're trying our very best to get everyone booked back in. Colin & I are both working hard today to clear some backlog, and will continue to give up family time over the next couple of weeks until we are caught back up. IF you think you have been forgotten about, PLEASE GET IN TOUCH to remind me, its been a stressful couple of weeks, and I may have dropped the ball a couple of times! Its best to email if possible, as then I have a written reminder somewhere ;) Thanks everyone for your patience. Eilidh x
Wee question for our customers (although I am aware that the customers who tend to use a landline to call us, may very well not be the sort of people who read facebook posts or use social media) We seem to have repeated problems with our landline, and although its on our van and all our literature, I'm seriously considering if its worth all the bother (copper line) and thinking we should just maybe lose it altogether. We both have mobiles and are easy contactable via them, and also via email and whatsapp. Whats your thoughts folks?
Our landline is down AGAIN. Please don't call us on it, it rings but is not functioning. Please email [email protected] or call or text me on my mobile on 07586 270 431. Thanks. Eilidh
This is totally one of the best parts of our job! When approached by this customer who was asking for a quote for a rewire, I asked 'why do you think you need one'. This is not the first time we've come across someone who has been told they needed a rewire, when they actually didn't! If you're not sure, have an EICR inspection done first. It pinpoints areas of concern, and tells us which areas can be left alone. You can read our reviews on West Lothian Councils 'trusted trader' page.
Hi All, we still have a member of our immediate family in hospital (making progress but still needing lots of tlc) so if things seem a little disorganised compared to usual, its because they are ;) We've also had a number of jobs that we've needed to move recently due to the weather, unfortunately, our commitment around hospital visiting etc has meant that I'm having to make decisions less 'last minute' than I'd like, and we're at the mercy of predictions from the met office. Going forward, we're hoping that the remainder of this week should run to plan, although its possible that my ability to take phone calls may be curtailed a bit on Friday. Can I please re-iterate, if you can't get me, please don't call Colin. I will be picking up texts and emails as normal. Its safer not to leave a voicemail as my phone doesn't always show I have them. thanks. Eilidh
Due to an immediate family commitment, I will have limited availability over the next couple of days. Colin will still be out and about, but I would ask that unless its urgent, PLEASE don't call him if you can't get me. If you text me on 07586 270 431, whatsapp me or send a message to [email protected], I will try to deal with as much as possible as normal, but I will be unable to take calls most of the time. Thanks for your consideration. Eilidh
Due to the adverse weather, we've already had to delay a job we started on Friday, and with the heavy rain, we're expecting more delays/ cancellations and rescheduling to follow. Electrics, rain and wind don't really mix. Please bear with us, as the usual tight schedule can't really be adhered to, and we're also going to lose a bit of time every time we have to move on.
Hi Folks, We've absorbed a lot of the increases in material costs over the last several months, but we have to be realistic about other costs such as tools, calibration, vehicle maintenance & memberships. From a day-to-day point of view, we have to look at where we are taking the biggest hits, and this seems to be the smaller jobs, where the rate that we are charging does not necessarily cover our travelling time. We still want to be a company that does the small jobs, as quite often these are the ones that cause people the most distress and inconvenience, however, we're increasingly feeling the pinch because of the amount of these we fit in. Therefore, with immediate effect, we are increasing our labour rate for the first hour to £55. The remainder of our labour costs remain the same. This rate only applies to NEW jobs booked in, anything pre-booked will be at the old rates.
Winner of our most recent prize draw was Frank Mulherne, who opted for the flowers. His wife likes Lillies, so in addition to a wee bouquet, we delivered these little beauties which are in a pot , so she can hopefully enjoy them again and again. No pics of the lady herself, because she was still in her PJ'S when Colin McMillan delivered them 💐
Wee bit of work up a cherry picker for Colin yesterday, great opportunity for him to wear his big hat ;)
Wishing all our customers, both old and new, A Very Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year. Thanks to you all for keeping us busy in 2023, and an specially big 'thank you' to those of you who were able to leave feedback for us, as it helps our wee business to continue to thrive
Please note that our land line is NOT working, so you can only get us by email or mobile 07586 270431
For those of you waiting for estimates....we've had several late nights working and Colin ended up out on the tools at the weekend, plus Mac has been ill, so no wee helper available! We're trying to plough our way through everything tonight, so I should have everyone caught up with by Wednesday afternoon. Apologies for the delays folks. Trying our very best, but December always seems to catch us out with how busy everything is!
Can we ask that customers please not make payments into our account except by bank transfer online. If you pay your invoice by paying cash into our account in the bank, WE get charged for it,( per transaction, AND a percentage of the payment) Thank you
What is it they say? Never work with children or animals. Wee play about with some lighting ideas in our rather dark stairwell at home. Gizmo wants to get in on the action
We've been on here for a couple of years now, and I'm glad to see we're still holding a top spot. We don't pay to be on here, its purely done by merit, as they pull from reviews all over the place. So to everyone who has ever left a review - THANK YOU!
We actually used 3BestRated to find my roofer, as I was curious about the site - and they're fab. So along with West Lothian Council Trusted Trader site, this is worth a visit

Some of you will be aware that we now have solar panels, which effectively means that the vast majority of our electricity is either supplied by our panels, or off peak power pulled into our batteries overnight. This work was carried out via a loan from the Energy Savings Trust, which is funded by the Gov't. All sorts of green deals are available, both to individuals AND landlords. Having both carried out work installing chargepoints and now been in receipt of funding for work via EST, we recommend anyone who is looking to have home improvements of a green nature to get onto the EST site to see what funding is available. https://www.homeenergyscotland.org/funding/private-landlord-loans/ https://www.homeenergyscotland.org/funding/grants-loans/

Having been absent for the last month, and now opened up our email on the PC, I've come to realise just how many enquiries I've been dealing with since we went away. It might take me a few days to catch up with everything. If you've made an enquiry PLEASE don't think I'm ignoring you, there's just a LOT! However, if I've not been back to you by end of business Tuesday next week, please do get back in touch, just in case anyone slipped through the net!! Thanks, Eilidh
The office is now closed until 28 September. You can still text me on 07586 270 431, Whatsapp, or email on [email protected], and I will endeavour to deal with all enquiries whilst we are on leave. We are still taking bookings as normal - (for October onwards) Please give some detail of your requirements and where possible we will provide costs and allocate a slot. Thanks. Eilidh
The RoHS directive (restriction of hazardous substances) means that from February 2024, you will no longer be able to buy fluorescent lamps in Scotland, England or Wales. Fluorescent lamps contain mercury, hence the move. It is hoped that the result will be increased availability of energy efficient alternatives.
Having just spend £105 on 18 x G9 LED capsules for a customer, I hope this helps drive the cost down too .....
