Our Director and Policy Manager were delighted to be invited to speak with councillors in by Mayor Neil Kelly.
We chatted about what the Council can do to support LGBTQIA+ staff and residents in the borough, as well as some of the projects we already run here. Much more work to be done, and lovely to see enthusiastic councillors wanting to make the borough a better place for LGBTQIA+ residents ๐ณ๏ธโ๐๐ณ๏ธโโง๏ธ

This is a poem by the GEG (Gay Ethnic Group) member, Khadeija, written today as a response to what is happening in Belfast during last days:
Join us in Ballybot House in Newry for an LGBTQIA+ drop-in this coming Monday, and the second Monday of every month, from 5pm for some chats, a cuppa, and to meet new people from within the community!
The Coffee and Information Morning that was scheduled to happen tomorrow on the 9th of August has been postponed. Do keep an eye out on a new date that may appear once it has been rescheduled.
Our statement on recent violence targeting ethnic minorities in Belfast.
All of the staff and communities in The Rainbow Project are horrified at the scenes we've seen in Belfast over the past number of days, and the impact this is having on ethnic minorities within the city.
We are clear: racism, xenophobia and islamophobia is not welcome in Belfast, and the violence and abuse perpetrated over the weekend are not representative of the views of the majority of people in this city.
We're proud to support actions to promote the diversity of Belfast and to push back on racist violence and intimidation. We all must stand together to defend our communities and show that Belfast, and Northern Ireland, welcomes diversity, welcomes refugees, and does not welcome racism.
Come join us at our information and coffee morning for a cuppa & to find out how the free Belfast Works Connect programme could support you to connect with others, build your confidence and self esteem, and to explore opportunities to develop your skills. Swipe through to find more info, and contact Rachel to register before Friday โ
